We are letting you know about the national rise in car thefts following the increase in the value of second hand cars, the most recent theft being from Aughton on the Wednesday, 18 May .

We would like to remind people of how to remain vigilant and keep their cars safe:

• Park in well used / bright locations
• Don’t leave valuables on display
• Consider using security film on windows
• Check key fob locking has worked
• Fit a Thatcham Approved alarm system some of which can now disable the OBD Port

For those of you with keyless entry cars, please be aware of wireless relay thefts. Where possible use faraday pouches to store keys to ensure the signal is blocked, however be aware that this may result in the offender trying to gain entry to the house to take the keys. Alternatives are:

• Turning off the signal on the key if possible to do so.
• Utilise steering wheel locks – old technology - Modern car thieves are equipped with laptops and digital kit!
• Consider having the windows etched with the VIN
