Aughton's Springfield Court Nursing Home was honoured to host a very special Remembrance Day Service last week.
On Wednesday, one of their much loved and respected residents, Neville Sheldon, 95, was awarded the 'Ordre National De La Legion D'honeur' by the French Government for his contribution to liberating France in the Second World War.
Witnessed by his family, residents and friends, the French Consul, Mr Phillipe Daniellle, performed a moving ceremony which started and finished with a Scots Piper, Southport's Colin Hughes.
Special guests included the British Legion, Commander in Chief of the 8th Kings Regiment and other military personnel. The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress were also present representing the Borough Council; Noel Delaney presented Neville with a shield depicting the 'Freedom of the Borough'.
The award ceremony - which ended with poppy decorated cup cakes and a glass of Prosecco - was magnificent with the residents, families, owners and staff delighted to share in this very special occasion!
