The drive to improve road safety in and around St Bedes RC High in Ormskirk will see regular enforcement of parking regulations according to County Councillor Nicki Hennessy.
This update from her on the Ormskirk Live FB pages: 'In relation to the concerns about the speed of traffic, we work closely with the Police as part of the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership to target locations where casualties and speeds are higher. If there is an evidenced safety issue, we will look to introduce appropriate mitigation measures.
We will assess St Anne's Road in the above way and publish the results in approximately a month's time on the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership website via the speed concerns link.
A Road Safety Officer met with the head teacher of St Bede's High School recently to address road safety issues. Road safety and active travel interventions and resources were discussed which can be delivered by school to increase walking and cycling and educate pupils about road safety.
Please see an outline of the discussion below:
• School to create a walk zone map to distribute to parents either by hard copy or by pdf via newsletters/website to identify distances for walking to school. This will encourage parents/carers to park away from school and will therefore reduce traffic flow, congestion and parking issues immediately outside school. School have said they will proactively promote this on every school blog. • Username and password provided to school to access our road safety resources on the Safer Schools Moodle website. • We established that school did not need any more parking A-Boards. • An active travel banner will be delivered to school this term to promote walking and cycling to school. • Pupils are invited to create road safety posters, which will reinforce road safety messages, these can be printed onto correx signs for outside school. School have since confirmed that the art department will get some designs created by pupils. • The Road Safety Team are offering 'Streetwise' Theatre in Education performances for Year 7 pupils this year via Zoom due to Covid-19. St Bede's High School are on the list to be invited by the theatre company who are hoping to schedule a third week of delivery after October half term.
Following this meeting, the Road Safety Team have reinstated School Travel Plans. These are a non-statutory requirement, however we will be encouraging all schools in Lancashire to have an up to date plan and were due to contact the school in early October to help progress this.
With regard to parking we have made targeted visits around the schools, and will be making regular enforcement visits.'

Drove down St. Anne's road and then up Prescott Road. Around 8:50am. Wednesday 21st.
Children crossing the road, seemingly expecting traffic to stop for them.
No staff whatsoever at either gate.
A clutch of 80-100 children gathered just within the Prescott rd. school gates.
A bubble perhaps? No way. Looked more like a froth to me!
Parents dropping children off right outside the school gates on Prescott road.
Ensuring child safety entails more than a press release.

Very dangerous for the children trying to cross such a busy road at school times.
A Pelican crossing and traffic calming measures are needed urgently.
