ROSIE COOPER MP SLAMS COUNCIL FOR ACCEPTING ONLY CASHLESS PAYMENTS

Rosie Cooper MP has condemned West Lancashire Borough Council’s discriminatory decision to not accept cash payments for their services.

This comes after one of her elderly constituents reported to Rosie that she was told by the council that they would not accept a cash or cheque payment for the collection of her garden waste.

Rosie’s constituent, like many other elderly constituents, does not use the cashless or electronic methods to make payments and explained that the council simply would not make exceptions in these circumstances.

Rosie Cooper MP said: “This is simply discrimination against the elderly or anyone who does not use modern banking techniques. We cannot allow the council or any other organisation to turn its back on people just because paying cash is inconvenient, I have raised this with the Corporate Director of Place and Community at West Lancashire Borough Council, and not for the first time either!

“It is discriminatory that an organisation’s aim of a cashless society would result in the neglect of the elderly or people who don’t have access to the modern ways of banking.

“We must look after the vulnerable people in our community and making them feel as though they have to modernise to keep up with the growing ‘cashless society’ is not the way forward.”
