Report: Brian Brighouse
While it may feel like there is a lull in activity after the league fixtures finished a couple of weeks ago there is still plenty of activity in the Ormskirk & District Pool League.
Last week saw the remaining players play in the last 16 round of singles and we now know that there will be a new winner as last year’s winner, David Taylor, lost to Lee Fairclough from the Stanley Club - as none of the other previous winners are still in the competition a new name will adorn our trophy board.
Indeed, it was a good night for the Stanley Club as two more of their players progressed to the Quarter Finals, Andrew Barnes & Martin Gallego. They are joined by John Weston from the Queen Inn, Luke Denning from Bar 22, Matthew Rimmer from the Bridge, Steve Riley from the Bridge Dogs and Scott Wolfenden from Shaw Hall.
The semi-finals take place on Wednesday 29th May on neutral tables. Good luck to those still involved.
This week it was the quarter finals of the cup, the Bridge overcame the Farmers 4 -1, the 22 Club had a similar result against the Railway while La Cantina A beat the Queen Inn 5 -2. The final quarter final between the Bridge Dogs and the Stanley Club takes place on 30th May.
