Police in West Lancashire have launched a major new operation designed to crack down on levels of organised crime and reassure local communities.
Operation Covalent will involve uniformed officers working alongside colleagues from the Neighbourhood Task Force and specialist departments like Tactical Operations to target known offenders suspected of being involved in serious organised crime, as well as drug-related activity, firearms and anti-social behaviour.
Commenting on the crackdown, Chief Inspector Kev. Evans said: “Organised crime will not be tolerated by police in West Lancashire. As part of Op Covalent, we will be doing everything we can to root out those responsible and bring them to justice so that the public of West Lancashire feel safe in their communities.”
The 12-month initiative will include targeting hot spot areas to reassure local communities as well as the execution of regular warrants on the homes of those suspected to be involved in criminal activity. The operation will have a number of strands to it, with an initial period of surge activity around key dates, while other medium to long term solutions are being developed.
Chief Inspector Evans added: “We will also be working closely with partners however we can’t do all this without information given to us by local communities. I would like to appeal to the public to continue to work with us to tackle local crime, in particular by reporting incidents to us to help make West Lancashire a safe place to live and work.”
