Grateful members of the Rotary Club of Ormskirk have thanked supporters after raising £1,273 for good causes.

Just days before the country went into lockdown it raised more than £523 towards the UK Rotary Club Flood Disaster Fund. The money, which will go to victims of the floods caused by Storms Ciara and Dennis in February, was raised through a collection held at Burscough’s Booths.

And in the weeks before lockdown, the club handed over money it had raised over Christmas to Derian House Children's Hospice and Burscough Bridge Methodist Primary School. Derian House received £500 which was raised by a carol concert held at Ormskirk Parish Church, while the PTFA of the school received £250. Cash was raised through street collections, with the help of the PTFA.

The Rotary Club of Ormskirk usually meets weekly at O’Briens Tea Room in Ormskirk but in lockdown meetings are being held online.

Paul Silcock, Vice President, said: “During these uncertain times we've cancelled our Tuesday meetings and are now meeting via a video link.

"It'll resume its charitable work once the lockdown is lifted and will be supporting local charities once again.

"We are now looking into the possibility of supporting local foodbanks during this crisis.

"We'd like to thank the people of Ormskirk and surrounding areas for their donations and support that they have given the club during these difficult times."
