A busy Royal Mail driver suffered a reversal of fortune in Ormskirk town centre on Friday night.
He was collecting high value mail from the Nationwide and was frustrated to find the gates at the top of Burscough St. locked.
He's now reported the issue to his supervisors in the hope that the borough council can ensure the gates are left unlocked to afford him an easy exit while on his rounds - as it was he had to reverse all the way down Burscough St.
"The last thing I want is to be delayed on my rounds and arrive here late with so many people milling around which to my kind is a security issue bearing in mind the high value mail I am collecting," he told QLocal's Roger Blaxall.
Before the gates were installed, Royal Mail drivers would drive to Nationwide via Derby St. and in recent months have been parking near the alleyway by Animal Antics which he said is far from ideal.

When will people ever learn that these are pedestrianised streets - cars, vans and other vehicles shouldn't be using them to drive up and down like this putting pedestrians at risk (although I've heard on the grapevine Roger you have previous form in that department...).
All the driver needed to do was park up in the Stiles car park and go through Church Walks to get to Nationwide.
And if as he alleges the post was so 'high value', why aren't Nationwide using Securicor or another similar company for this collection, rather than Royal Mail?
Good to see the gates doing their job anyway - an excellent move by the Council that I fully support.
