An Edge Hill student's mum has taken to social media in a bid to find out who glassed her daughter in an unprovoked attack outside a popular Ormskirk nightclub.
Southport's Katie Macdonald was knocked unconscious for at least a minute following the alleged attack outside Alpine on Railway Road in the early hours of Friday.
She had walked over to a group of young men to try and calm down an argument - but instead of getting thanks, she was 'glassed', falling into a seizure - something she has started suffering from since she was kneed in the head while playing rugby.
The 20-year-old was taken to Southport hospital where her shocked mum Jane took photos of her daughter and circulated them on FB in an appeal for information over the incident.
Jane wrote: "This happened to my daughter Katie last night by cowards of men using a bottle outside Alpine in Ormskirk around 1.30am [on Friday].
"Please share to get more information as we want the horrible men that did this to be caught."
She added: "The staff at Alpine were amazing, it's important to say. The doormen did a great job."
Katie suffered three deep lacerations - which needed glueing - as well as badly swollen cheeks and two black eyes.
Jane, 41, added she was very lucky her daughter's sight has not been damaged.
And reacting to the horrific assault, Our West Lancashire’s Community Safety spokesman, Gordon Johnson, told QLocal yesterday: "Our thoughts are with the innocent victim Miss MacDonald at this time.
"Incidents of gratuitous violence of this kind are totally unacceptable. I saw many innocent people receive life changing scars and injuries over my years in the police force as a result of such attacks.
"The Borough council's licensing department and local constabulary need to be more proactive in ensuring the safety of revellers who should be able to enjoy their evenings out in our historic market town".
Former police officer Mr Johnson, who lives in Ormskirk, concluded: “It is our understanding that glass should not be taken outside of licensed premises as a condition of their licence and our group leader Cllr Adrian Owens has written to the local police and licensing authorities to clarify the position.”
