There'll be a real buzz about Aughton on Saturday - especially on the old bowling green behind the Co-op at Town Green!
And here's why - it's the Ormskirk and Croston beekeepers open day!
From branch chair Martin J Smith: 'Ormskirk & Croston Beekeepers Association covers West Lancashire, St Helens, Wigan & Chorleyareas and has around 200 active beekeeping members.
It is part of Lancashire & North WestBeekeepers Association, a registered charity that has over 800 beekeeping members.
The charity seeks to encourage understanding of bees in the environment with open days and talksto the public.
In addition it runs a schools visits programme. The group also run introduction to beekeeping courses in the spring, to introduce people to thefascinating world of bees and beekeeping
Further details of these activities can be found on https://www.ormskirkbeekeepers.org.uk/
The Aughton Apiary is the branch’s second apiary complimenting its main apiary in Kings Moss near Rainford andwill be used for beekeeper training as well as a queen rearing and breeding programme.'
Let's hope the site is safe for future generations given the fact that the land is up for sale.
