Collectables of the 20th century
Picked up this nice glass bell today, dating approx 1900-1905 ish...
Flint glass bell, made in france (possibly in the baccarat factory)
the handle and clapper match and are made of cold painted bronze.
Highly collectable
maybe others can upload pictures of they're 20th century collectables on this thread .
It would be a good place to show them off or find out a liitle about them.

Very interesting
1st
what makes you think C1905
2nd
do you think the rabbit and the carrot have been added to the glass domb to make a bell
3rd the clanger and handle part was missing and replaced.
hard to tell from the picture if all original, or a marriage
Is the rabit made of china
is it light in weight
and is the carrot made by the same company as the rabbit, any marks.
I love it.
how much did you pay.
by the way I have just bought the coffee pot
got a call from a runner/ knocker who had bought the pot in Astley Bridge just out side of Wigan.
It is engraved Capt. Captain A H Rostron
SS-Carpathia.
sounds good

these bells are rare john.
i have done a little research and they date from around 1900-1905ish
no this is the original item. you can also find a cat and mouse, devil and fork versions ect
a bell collector would be happy paying £700-£800 for this bell.
you may find that hard to believe but if you go on the american bell website and search flint glass bells.
they are extremelly rare.
i paid two pounds in a charity shop, tbh i didnt know what i was buying i just saw it had quality.
whay teapot did you buy john?

you shock me.
£440
you might have made a sale ... but have you made a customer.
The glass bell must be something special that cannot be seen by a photograph.
did you put it in a specialty auction.
congratulations.......... you are salesman of the week

general auction john.lol
deffinatly have a sale but whether i have a customer will depend on me sourcing more stock of this kind.
yeah john it was a rare flint glass bell, french , made with a cold painted bronze matching handle and clanger around 1900 in date.
these bells are known to have a possible connection with baccarat and there are different models (like a ruby coloured glass bell) with a cockerel shaped handle and egg shapped clanger, only 20 different variations exist.
they are very rare and sought after by collectors mainly in america.
they usually sell to collectors between £600-£1000 so i sold mine a little cheap.
but i paid £2 for it.

15% john
still cant complain
it just goes to show that even though money is tight and antiques in general are in the the middle of a lull, specialist rare items still pull the money in.
i have trouble selling eighteenth century pearlware coffee cups for a fiver yet a rare glass bell circa 1900 sells for £440.
strange world
