Tolls are to be introduced on the Marine Way Bridge.
In an effort to raise more revenue Sefton Council have decided to introduce the Toll that will be similar to the new Merseyflow at Runcorn.
Contractors were busy this morning installing the ANPR cameras.
It is hoped that the system will be working in time for the Easter Holidays.
A spokesperson for Sefton Council said...
"we are introducing these Tolls as revenue from parking in Southport is down dramatically.People are just not coming into town anymore.
Along with fining dog walkers who have their pets on too long a lead and targeting the old and vulnerable with littering fines we think this is a great way of raising revenue.
For residents to pay they will have to register their vehicle online and the cost will be added to the Council tax bill for that property.
Visitors will be able to pay online at www.ripoffsouthport.co.uk once it has been set up.
