Or completely disappear, as some pension funds have done. BHS and Carillion to name but two.

Increased life expectancy didn't happen overnight as I've said a more gradual introduction of extra years could have been implemented.
I'm suprized the experts didn't think of that after all the consultancy money this country pays them.

An episode of Hospital interviewed a hospital consultant, he said that advances in medicine means we are saving older people from illnesses that 10 years ago they would have died from, we are saving babies being born with conditions that 10 years they would have died from, these are amazing advances but it means the elderly are living longer, babies are surviving through to adulthood to old age with long term health issues all of this needs to be paid for.
The only way to pay for it taxation but no party is brave enough to say so or do so.
If a party announced an election manifesto of a 2p rise in income tax and the extra money raised would be used solely for funding specific causes, lets say 1p for lowering the retirement age back to 65 & 1p for funding the NHS would you vote for them, I think I would.
I'm looking at 67 before I can draw my state pension, I have a meager private pension so no idea what my old age will be never mind retirement being raised to 75 it's likely I'll still be working anyway!

A sad state of affairs considering this is supposed to be the 5th richest country in the world.
Alas the greedy rich don't want to pay their fair share and the tories are more than happy to facilitate this.

That's not the way it works. It's not kept in an investment pot to be drawn by future retirees. NI contributions made by the current working population fund the pensions that are currently being drawn by retirees. NI deductions made in 1970 were used to pay male retirees born in 1905 or earlier. 1910 and earlier for women. The current working population always funds the earlier generation(s) pensions.
Your current contributions are paying pensions to retirees who were born in 1954 or earlier. And that's where one of the problem lies. This time period includes the first wave of boomers. A huge population blip, and an increase in the ageing population. Longer life expectancy and low birth rates means that the native population can't possibly fund state pensions. Whether you like them or not, you need working immigrants to increase pension funding. It's something that most Western countries have had to come to terms with.
The imimigrants will also age and draw pensions, but they will also have increased the population with their children, and they will be funding their parent's pension. If you have a pension system that kicks the can down the road to future generations, it's the only way it can be sustained.

You're right, but how long a term would it need? No good putting your head in the sand because someone didn't think of this 20-30 years ago.

I'm not putting my head in the sand.
I'll take it you have a mortgage say 25 years, you would not be to pleased if they told you with 5 years to go you would have to pay another 5 years would you?
Yet that is precisely what has happened to waspi women.

Don't think that's really fair. With out the rich where not the 5th richest country in the world. While they may do their best to avoid paying taxes they do still have too and they also create a lot of jobs.
We have amazing systems in this country. Ones I've had to use more than most. But there is a cost and if that cost is I have to work to 75 then so be it.

Yep, I also had an endowment mortgage, which I was told would cover my mortgage and leave a nice lump sum at the end. Guess what, It isn't even close to paying the mortgage off. **** happens.

Very comendable you feel this way but just think if the rich did pay their fair share you wouldn't have to work till you were 75.
I would imagine judging by your posts your pay your fair share so why shouldn't they?

No, hence why we got rid of it and got a small pay out, still no where near what it was meant to produce.
Hence why I don't trust financial advisors or politicians of any part. Both are cut from the same cloth and are only looking out for number one, no matter what pipe dreams they tell you.

If they didn't make you aware then you should be entitled to compensation
