Racism in sport
Once again racism raised its ugly head last night in the game between Bulgaria and England .
Its utterly disgusting the way racism is more prevalent in sport and football in particular .
Don't know the answer to the problem other than taking the players off the pitch or other venues in sport .
REST IN PEACE THE 96.

It is abhorrent.
Seems to be particularly prevalent in Eastern Europe and Russia. I'd award the visiting team an instant win, then take the players off the pitch. Or consider banning the team from competition. I know that punishes decent fans who wouldn't consider such actions, but something has to be done.
Vile creatures.

They should have walked off, It's about time they put the practice into action.
10 years they have had the latest rules and not one game stopped.

What was particularly bad last night was that it was organised - you could clearly see the group of neo-Nazi thugs, some of whom were mocking UEFA's 'Respect' campaign with T shirts printed with 'NO RESPECT'.
After the second warning was given, they all walked out, some with their faces covered.
As is usually the case, the police did nothing.
It'll be interesting to see what UEFA does - part of the stadium was closed last night due to previous racist incidents.

Fines are a waste of time, only bans will work, Leaving an area of a stadium is only a symbolic gesture, close a stadium for the first offence, booted out of the tournament for second offence, lengthy ban from all tournaments then if that doesn't work ban from all international sport.

You are all so wrong! The media feeds people who hurl abuse at others. The more people get upset about it the more it will occur! Footballers have always been subjected to abuse no matter what colour or creed they are. If they are playing a poor game - they will hear about it! If colour of the skin is involved why should it upset anyone? I have been racially abused, it never bothered me! Everyone should pay heed to Raheem Sterling and other black sports people - laugh about it, make fun of the remarks, accept it as a challenge - never show it bothers you and you kill it stone dead!

For once I laughed when I read this. It is humurous. I mean. it's humurous that someone who claims to be grown up can write such a stupid post. Just before WWII the UK had a Prime Minister who, from what I have read, claimed more or less the same thing. Ignore the Nazis and it will all go away. We all know the result!

Now, now. He's a racially abused white male. You know what a persecuted underclass that is. He's probably got PTSD and everything.

No, you are wrong. It cannot become acceptable it must be stamped out and all clubs and International Bodies must be responsible for their own realm, if it occurs and nothing is done about it the club / body must be punished. it doesn't make any difference whether it occurs on Wembley or Meols Park action must be taken.

The Bulgarian coach / manager said in a TV interview that he didn’t see or hear any racist actions or abuse, but he did hear England fans booing the Bulgarian National Anthem and using foul language.
He also said that racism isn’t a problem in Bulgaria and it was highlighted and fuelled by the FA, by them mentioning it before the game was played.
He’s either deaf, has selective hearing or is a liar, and until these nations admit the have a problem and remove people like him, they should exclude them from future competitions.
Fines are pointless, playing fixtures behind closed doors isn’t ideal but it would hit the decent supporters hard, who in turn may put pressure on the minority.
Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

The Bulgarian fans were caught on camera. Several times. So he's a liar. Although, as I recall, Arsene Wenger 'never saw anything'...
It seems to be part of the culture in that area of the world. That and hooliganism. It is high time that UEFA and FIFA stamped it out. Can't see it though. Not when those bodies themselves are so corrupt. The right backhander and Qatar gets the World Cup, so I don't expect them to do the decent thing.

Mmmh! Just as I claimed - you do have a weird sense of humour! That is a totally different issue. Football fans are more inclined to be for a good day out. As shown by the humorous British response to the Bulgarian fans. In general this will always be - however, there are the Ultras who stir up trouble just for the fun of it.

Just on Sky News, England and Bulgaria both charged by UEFA following last nights match.

That is bloody ridiculous. If we didn't have enough stewards, how were our fans let in the stadium in the first place. And interrupting the anthem?
I'd wager that had Bulgarian fans been as good as gold, England wouldn't be charged with any of that. Complete bull. Not surprising from UEFA, though.
