Were a nation of fatties and the one at the top wants us thinner.
He blames his coronavirus complications on his weight.

When all the studies of Covid-19 are evaluated I expect it will show those that suffered the virus worst effects will all be linked to disadvantages
on the lungs and heart.
Which one tops the list may change. At the moment Diabetes is the top risk.
Obesity affects lung capacity.
Full marks to Boris for being self honest.

Lungs (and heart) are muscle-powered....and as everyone knows, the way to build muscles is to give them work, i.e. to exercise them. Regular meaningful exercise which raises the heart rate, has the added advantage of burning off calories.

The lungs need to expand in a cavity.
Obesity steals the space.
Featured snippet from the web
"Obesity causes mechanical compression of the diaphragm, lungs, and chest cavity, which can lead to restrictive pulmonary damage. Furthermore, excess fat decreases total respiratory system compliance, increases pulmonary resistance, and reduces respiratory muscle strength."

We have to accept as a nation we are a bunch of lazy overeaters.
I certainly should manage my diet better I have no excuse I control what I eat.

Yes, I can see that would happen. Excess fat will take up additional internal space, crowding in on the lungs......Burning off that fat with plenty exercise would be the obvious way to go.

Control of diet and exercise would be a better way of getting rid of visceral fat.

We are a nanny state and it about time something was done to reduce how fat some people are.
Just look how many takeaways there are in Southport compared to the 70's.
Years ago it was a treat and a one off to go to the chippy for your tea and you only did at the weekends, nowadays some families are having their tea from a takeaway most days of the week.
Perhaps if they were publicly shamed then they might start to lose weight.

Yes, where I live there was only one chippy over the road by the bus stop. Since the 80's there's been loads cropping up, everywhere. There must be about 50 takeaways or more now in the whole of Southport.

A lot more than that, I bet it is nearer 150.

It is the start of the 'we're not to blame, the public are' method of avoiding responsibility and scrutiny.
Much the same as the declaration that 'we trust the public to use common sense', absolves the government of any guilt in the mismanagement of this outbreak. 'Well, they should have used common sense'.
Plus Poundshop Churchill's sudden concern about obesity is typical of his solipsism. It's only a problem if it is a problem for him. I don't think it was 12 months ago that he wanted to abolish the sugar tax.

I thought (according to Labour) the public needed 'grown up conversations' and 'full transparency of the facts'.
Not to mention 'a clear plan set forward based on evidence and facts'?
I am beginning to think 'trots' comes from the current habit of them all
trotting out these same soundbites at break neck speed to camera.
