Here's an intriguing line from a PR released yesterday by West Lancs. MP Rosie Cooper:
The story:
https://www.qlocal.co.uk/ormskirk/ne...l-55047349.htm
And the Southport reference: “Leaders of West Lancashire, Chorley and South Ribble have written to the Secretary of State stating their intention to support work to develop a business case on this footprint, this is something I could consider more positively as I would the inclusion of Southport in a future plan.
Make of it what you will - might it be 'Southport, Lancs, thanks' soon?

MP Rosie raised her deep concerns about any geographical arrangement which would include Preston, fearing its huge draw on any resources and West Lancashire again being left behind, as it currently is as part of Lancashire County.
But will we just be swapping the stories from our local councillors moaning about Bootle spending all our parking money with Preston?

…the plot thickens
Robert Jenrick, Secretary of State for
Housing, Communities and Local Government
Central government seems determined to stir-up controversy on all fronts. Threatening to reorganize local government is 'poking a stick in a hornets nest ' — a useful diversionary tactic, it must be admitted.
Cllr. Pugh has realized this could be his long hoped-for (and last chance) to wrench Southport out of Sefton. Hence his renewed push for the Burscough 'curves'. But he should remember the cliché "Be careful what you wish for …".

at least we'll have something in common with them unlike the alien land the other side of Crosby and it's inhabitants.

what do we have in common with them over and above the people of Bootle? It’s made great election fodder and reasons for councillors to try justify their political existence but in reality it’s never stacked up too much.
Anyway, if politicians want to keep peddling the promised land of being back in Lancashire they need to be careful they aren’t taking us out of the fire and into the frying pan as moving to Lancashire doesn’t mean a load of money will be pumped into Southport as the streets of Preston, Skem etc are hardly paved with gold.

I’m guessing you’ve not been to Preston or Skelmersdale recently going of those comments?
As I’m still waiting on your demonstration of your driving prowess, it’s somewhere we could go.
