Will Sefton Council follow West Lancs Council who have suspended parking charges in Ormskirk and suspend parking charges in Southport?
A spokesperson for West Lancs Council said...
Car parking charges will be suspended in Council-owned car parks in Ormskirk town centre throughout November
We are keen to support small businesses in Ormskirk town centre selling essential goods and services during the second nationwide coronavirus lockdown.
Parking charges will be suspended from Friday 6 November to Wednesday 2 December. However, we would like to request that residents continue to park responsibly by parking within marked parking bays during this time.
West Lancashire Borough Council leader, Councillor Ian Moran said: "Our independent traders and market traders have been particularly hit by lockdown restrictions. We want to support those local independent shops that are able to stay open and those that will be able to operate click and collect services during this lockdown."
During the lockdown period, the Council is urging people to follow government guidance and only make essential trips to the town centre.

It is hardly worth suspending parking charges in Southport as the lunatics are making the Town Centre and it's shops a no go area. Invisible cyclists are the way forward when it comes to infrastructure, hands up anyone who has seen a cyclist using the cycle lanes on their pop-up cycles in Queens Rd or Hoghton St.
Given that we are supposed to be in 'lockdown' and staying at home, why would anyone call for free parking?
It makes absolutely no sense!
'Supposed' is the right word.......From the sheer volume of traffic in the Benthams Way, Cemetery Rd and Meols Cop areas (where I was working yesterday), not many are bothering to lock down.

Me, I have seen a cyclist on Houghton Street just one but there definitely was one.

We do get mixed and confused messages on parking charges when it suits it's great and when it suits it ain't.

Build an isolated 1 mile piece of railway track, and you'll wait a while to see anyone use it.
Build a fully interconnected national rail network, and millions will use it.

Town centre parking spaces are a commodity and parking charges are a legitimate source of revenue. Council services do not come for free. Nevertheless in exceptional circumstances, West Lancs has opted to waive income.
Feeling entitled, motorists hope to persuade us that parking should be free.
There may be some merit to an economic case for short-term waiving of parking charges as a modest boost to traders relying on footfall; however, it is not at all cut and dried. In the longer perspective, the question of how to deal with vehicle traffic is part and parcel of town planning (which incidentally, the government is proposing to disrupt). Paying a fee to park your vehicle is one among many costs associated with vehicle usage.

Don’t be daft. The cash cows in Boot Hill need the money to waste on idiotic innovations.

I've used them quite a few times myself.
But I'm sorry I didn't realise I was supposed to use them while you were out counting cylcists. If you could let me know when you'll be doing this next I'll try and make sure I'm there. We could count drivers ignoring "no entry" signs at the same time.

Not that I've ever noticed infant the charges vary in Southport depending on the location. Some anti Bootle commenters would have you believe anything. I was born and live in Southport and have worked for long periods in Bootle and can't understand the hatred that some people have for the parts of Sefton in Liverpool. They even moan that Sefton repurchased the Strand forgetting that it actually makes a profit which helps to fund the whole of Sefton

You sound rare in the Sandgrounder population. Perhaps you have been reverse assimilated.
