Free Holidays
A group of twenty of us are travelling down to Kent next week. We have a rubber dinghy and we are going to all crowd into it and sit on the beach. We have a photographer and we will then phone the newspapers and wait - if anyone wants to know, we do not speak English. What are our chances?

Should be good for a laugh.....maybe get hold of some darkish makeup and practice a few Afghani words, just to add to the effect.

You are making fun of distressed human beings.
If you are proud of yourself, you are not a human being of any worth.

Free accommodation in an asylum seekers centre for two years and a one way flight to Afghanistan at the end of your break.
Enjoy!

As if you have that many friends.
Alter egos, maybe. Friends, no.

It's a toss up as to whether your post or Said's is the worst.

It is an idiotic post perhaps one of "his" worst but most of the people in those boats are not distressed they are coming for a better life in the UK rather than France.
I don't blame them we are much better than France
I would be on the boat with them.
It does though seem a much quicker way to exit the EU than we managed.

At the end of the day, .refugees are people who need to escape from intolerable conditions of life. These are those without the money and, or skills and time to apply for immigration to countries with better prospects. If that doesn't qualify as distress, we need to rewrite the dictionary.
Whether or not the existing inhabitants of the countries they want to settle in should welcome them with open arms is a topic for another thread. On this one, we all need simply respond as civilised folk and tell the poster that such 'jokes' are contemptible.

Well I don't think that applies to people coming in boats from France does it?
The Profs posts are usually more in need of rescuing than the economic refugees.

‘There is no such thing as a bogus asylum-seeker or an illegal asylum-seeker. As an asylum-seeker, a person has entered into a legal process of refugee status determination. Everybody has a right to seek asylum in another country. People who don't qualify for protection as refugees will not receive refugee status and may be deported, but just because someone doesn't receive refugee status doesn't mean they are a bogus asylum-seeker.
Let us remember that a bogus asylum-seeker is not equivalent to a criminal; and that an unsuccessful asylum application is not equivalent to a bogus one’ - Kofi Annan

Can't say I blame them for trying. But what exactly is wrong with them? France (and any EU state) is a safe enough haven and a perfectly good place to settle down and make a new life.....In fact many people here in the UK would love to live there, enjoying the warmer drier weather and often lower property prices.
The top asylum application is from Iran unsurprisingly.

If EU States were that great for Europeans why would 3.7 million prefer to live in the UK?
Only 1.2 million Brits choose to live in the whole of the EU.
Perfectly clear why asylum seekers choose the UK I would much rather they were given status to remain than EU citizens from their perfectly safe country!
