I agree SF. There are a few out there who have decided that this person is automatically guilty and therefore must be figuratively hanged. Others who say it's probably the 'victims' fault and the man cannot be blamed.
What happened to the innocent until proven guilty law?
While these sort of crimes are heinous and guilty perpetrators must be sentenced accordingly, I would prefer it if we waited to see the results of the trial before jumping to conclusions either way.

Not at all - I am merely trying to point out that people cannot 'try' a person simply on what the media reports. There are always two sides to a story.
For example, imagine that this guy is your son, brother etc., he meets up with a lovely woman via the internet, work, club whatever. They sit down and talk about each other's history - the young lady saying, "I was married but we are separated now". She then writes down his phone number and the evening rolls on, they have a wonderful time, and they both agree to find a hotel to spend the night at. They have sex and the young lady praises the guy in that she has never met anyone so wonderful, etc.,etc., and they go their own way in the morning, promising to meet later. Later that day - the guy receives a phone call from a very irate man who is threatening him for raping his wife. He is unsure what to think at the time. Next there are to Police Officers knocking on his door, they ask to come in and begin questioning him about his activities the night before. He tells them in all honesty, but they do not believe him because the young lady is adamant that he raped her and she is supported by her very angry husband. The story is reported in the news, the people under popular consensus blame the guy and in court the judge sides with first punch (the first person to complain) and the guy is sentenced to 10 years. The truth of the story is that the young lady felt that her husband was not giving her enough attention and had decided that if she was to become a 'victim' she would get more attention from her husband. That guy is still inside, still appealing his conviction.
You people, and people like you are to blame for this injustice - this case rested on 'He said, she said' , this present vogue and because the girl was rather glamourous and the guy was rough looking - sympathy went to the girl.

Usual garbled nonsense, I have not attempted to use trial be media, in truth you are the one trying to apportion blame, in your case to the alleged victim, your hypothetical scenario is possible but highly unlikely, however usually truth will out, hopefully this will be the case.

If both parties are so drunk - how does anyone know if it was consensual or not? Easy to say after the facts.
"“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial."
Who apart from you has mentioned that both parties where 'so drunk'?
You are trying to defend the indefensible.

It's an unpleasant read so a dislike is apt.

Maybe like a few other professions not least the Church certain people are attracted in amongst the good ones who shouldn't be there.
The startling figures from the French Catholic Church are almost beyond comprehension.

From the Magdalene laundries, the children in Marieval Indian Residential School, to the worldwide child abuse that is ignored, perpetrated and enabled by church seniors, I can think of few less 'holy' establishments than the Catholic church.
Evil, in fact.
And yes, I know, 'not all...'. Just like 'not all men...', but just enough to make us think about our safety every time we leave the house, I wouldn't leave any child alone with a church figure. Particularly a Catholic church figure.
