Southport Market to close temporarily
Livepool Echo says that the £1.4 refurbished Market is to close to complete final touches to the refurbishment??
Ms. Atkinson, member of the Bootle kin stated that staff needed a respite after the very busy Christmas season where thousands turned up to the venue - guess they must be the very same thousands who used the new cycle lanes.
Odd, since every time I have been past, I have only ever seen a handful of people in the whole place at any one time, even then they may have been staff..

The few times I’ve been in, including one very recent visit, the place has been busy. Great food and atmosphere too.

Southport Market
Every time I have been past it's closed.....and they close Monday and Tuesday too. What's the point of it? If it was a normal market and not some over inflated pub it would be better. There are far, far too many pubs and restaurants in Southport anyway.

Seems you're out of touch and living in the past.
Nobody used the normal market and now it is always busy 5 days a week.
Typical Southport mentality to bemoan anything new and successful whilst pining for things that failed.

Don't know when you pass to find it closed other than Monday & Tuesday, I pass more or less every day and it's open as advertised also very busy.
As a market, it was pitiful & sad hardly any stalls it's great to see it open with what looks like thriving businesses.

In days gone by, the former market use to be very busy indeed and had a wide variety of stalls, including at least two butchers, fruit and vegetables, haberdashery and a popular cafe.

In days gone by we didn't have a dozen supermarkets where most people can get everything they need from a wider choice.

I can remember it in it's heyday, it was thriving with a multitude of stalls. As a kid used to go with my mum to get our cheese and free sample

Indoor Markets
There are still plenty of indoor markets that are still busy and packed to the rafters in other areas.

Very true.....Tesco for example, you can get anything from a mortgage to a pair of knickers, to
a tv set, smartphone, frying pan, cigs, medicines/fill a prescription - and that's before you even get to the food section! Imo, whilst it's fashionable to blame cycling for the demise of the town centre, 'big retail' must take the lions share of the blame.
