Maintaining the pier is costly. If Southport's catteriing, leisure and hospitality businesses really do benefit from the pier, then they should be paying for it. In any case, the Council must off-load this particular liability!

Why do Bootle Council not just come out and say that they are going to demolish it and stop wasting all this time and money on silly PR games.

Because Sefton, Bootle Council ceased to exist in 1974, have already come out to say that they won't demolish it.

Why then do you want them to say they are going to demolish it, you wouldn't believe that either! or do you only believe what you want to hear?

When it comes to your beloved Sefton Council, you are totally blinkered.

You’re so negative about absolutely everything.

Nobody would take it on, as you say it is a liability, the ones who should be coughing up are the ones who have caused the damage running the silly little train up and down it. When we had a train / tram no vehicles were permitted down the pier and there were no problems.

Not forgetting the transit van taking stock or the ice cream vans at the end.

Didn't the tram/train have to be removed due to the damage it was causing, which lead to the 'silly little train'?
Also, I don't think that any of the vehicles that have been on the pier will have caused it to rust and corrode like it has.

It was removed partly because of damage found to the structure but not attributed to the tram as it was similar to damage found in the areas where the tram didn't run, it also ran on rails so the board damage can't be attributed to that either, running costs were also a factor in its demise.
