Simply calling for stiffer penalties to castigate cyclists is never going to solve things - it certainly hasn't done so for errant motorists.

Maybe they should. But bikes don't have speedos, so how is that going to work?

N.B. Cars do have speedos and are subject to speed-limits. Yet how many motorists abide by the limit, in particular the 20mph limit?
Speedometers should be mandatory for bicycles, as should lights.

You’re the last person who should be commenting on motorists not abiding by speed limits, particularly after some of your recent admissions of law breaking and dangerous driving.

Maybe they should, but fact is they don't.

It's precisely because I do keep to the limits - inc 20mph limits - that so many impatient motorists put themselves into dangerous situations, trying to get past when they shouldn't - duh!

So which one is the lie, you do keep to speed limits, OR you don’t keep to speed limits? Like I’ve said many times, you’re a pathological liar, this yet again proves my point.

I am beginning to have my doubts about you own claim to have a 'gizmo' that magically keeps you to the limit wherever you go. Because if that were the case, you'd be experiencing the same thing I do. I.e. people trying to get past all the time, sometimes giving the 'screw loose' gesture as they pass.....I rather suspect you keep up with the flow of traffic, like most everyone else does - duh!

You keep raising this as an example even though it's several years old.

No matter what relevance or otherwise it has to the case in question (which happened some 200 miles or more away), you will defend cyclists no matter how much they are to blame.

I don’t have a gizmo that magically keeps me to the speed limit. What I do have is a speed limiter which when used properly does just that, limits the speed.

Like you said in another thread, some people were born w*n*e*s, take a bow.

Intelligent Speed Assistance is what it is called and it will be on all new cars from 7th July.

Sounds like a step in the right direction. But if it has an 'ON/OFF' button, my guess is few if any will drive with it switched on!

A simple phone app can show your speed, and far more accurate than a car speedometer.

    Couple it with this...

    Simple as!

No on off button but there is a way around it temporally, any disabling of it invalidates the warranty.

That would work, provided all cyclists splashed-out on I-phones and monthly subscriptions to get mobile internet. Not much of a plan in my case though, I don't have an I-phone, so can't do 'apps'. Mine's a simple manual push-button job with no internet, just phonecalls and texts - it's all I've ever needed.

Sorry that the woman got injured - but surely when crossing any road - you look both ways? Mind you that also goes for road users. Accidents between two people usually mean both are at fault.

Are you suggesting that a speeding cyclist gets out his phone and reads that as well as speeding?

Did you actually look at the link in my post? It's an attachment that clamps to the handlebars that will hold a phone securely. Looking at the phone in this configuration is no different than looking at a speedometer on a motorbike.

    Or... buy a bike speedometer.

£21.99 I'm sure most cyclists can afford it.

Just another accessory for people to pinch...

When vacationing/checking-out Southern France (pre-Covid) with a view to eventual retirement there, I had paused on my bike in a village. Out of the blue, a young boy approached smiling and for some reason started a brief conversation. Then, whilst I was still stood astride the bike and without a word. Fast as lightning, he made a grab at my speedo and gave it a sharp twist.

Fortunately, it wasn't of a bayonet-mount type, but attached with a pair of strong rubber bands and wouldn't detach. Failing, he ran off to vanish down an alley. Had I parked the bike and gone for a walk, I'm sure that speedo would have gone. Which did happen in another country on another occasion, even though the display is useless without its associated cable, mount and magnetic wheel-sensor.
