Sort of makes your argument pointless then.

Why would there ever be a limited right turn at a T junction when you can only turn left or right? are you seriously saying this junction was a right turn for buses only, so to access Nevil Street you would turn left onto The Promenade, right onto Bold St, right onto Lord St then use Monument Square to cross Lord St to drive up Nevil St!

What a load of utter crap. Lord Street has the widest footpaths of any Street in the whole of Southport. Added to that, it has SIX sets of pedestrian light controlled crossing places, where pedestrians can cross safely. It also has a totally inappropriate 24/7 bus lane running North to South which slows traffic down to a snails pace for the majority of the day. ‘Reality’ is, that Lord Street is probably the safest Street in the Town, IF, pedestrians use it properly.

When looking at the figures for street incidents/accidents for Southport and in particular its town centre we have to take into consideration age and mobility issues.
They overrepresent.
We have a lot of elderly and disabled people who I am sure would love to be able to walk or cycle the length of Lord Street without incident.
The reality is they can't.

Lord St is like Fred Carno's when it comes to pedestrian usage they will walk past a Pelican crossing to wander into the middle of the road and stand there hoping someone as half baked as them stops to let them cross only to be mown down by a taxi/bus using the bus lane.
When they do use the crossing they have great difficulty in telling RED from GREEN. They cross to the refuge then as the traffic is stationary continue across the second the lights are green for traffic, absolute morons. And compo wonders why people get knocked down crossing roads.

There are a lot of elderly and disabled people in Southport and not many of them want to be tripping quite literally around the roads.
A much simpler street scene would be helpful.
We don't need bus lanes, it's Southport not a busy city centre with a huge workforce needing to get to work.
Giving priority to a bus pass clutching pensioner going "for a loaf" is hardly the best and environmentally friendly use for our streets.

I suppose your peds include visitors with excited youngsters tagging along behind, running about playing hide-and-seek in shop doorways and behind parked cars, etc. It's difficult, if not impossible, for parents to concentrate on doing their shopping, whilst also watching their kids to ensure they don't run into the road. People really do not need that kind of stress, when they're trying to enjoy a family day out in Southport.

I've never noticed anyone playing hide-and-seek behind a parked car. I doubt you have either and I doubt it's something you once used to do.

Youngsters today are a very considerable advancement on your behaviour at that time.
FYI, the overwhelming majority of the population live normal, rational lives compared to your own delusional environment.

Well, of course you wouldn't notice them - because they're hiding!

Yes, there was always that answer. I could have pre-emptively stymied that reply, but then you would have been left with nothing much.
As I said, you've never spotted anyone hiding behind a parked car and as a kid you never hid behind a car - on the presumption that they had cars back then!

If you don't want the stress don't have kids - end of! There's more dangers in the home than outside.

Lol...Well, I admit that I never played amongst the cars on Lord Street for obvious reasons. But we did run around parked cars on our own forecourt. A policeman once asked what we were doing - and believe it or not, I told him we were playing Cops and Robbers!
