The PCR test is generally 24 hours before a result, the quicky tests are not regarded as reliable as the PCR, as it happens I had a cataract op end of last week, had to take a COVID test no more than 72 hours before, then isolate until surgery, the result is only returned to the surgery the day after the test.

Er...Probably a moot point, but how did they know what to test for? The tests they have been carrying out have been done according to one particular assay - if there was any variant shown - they would have needed a separate assay, and if there is only one case locally - how would they have got hold of that assay?

I live in Haig Avenue,on the edge of the PR8 area, and I am at present caring 24/7 for my wife who had a Stem-Cell procedure performed in September 2020,and her immune system is virtually non-existent at present, and classed as a High-Risk..So we are both in a possible serious situation,as we don't know where in PR9 this alleged person is resident,my wife allegedly cannot have the covid vaccine,as it is a few months since her SCP,and have only been having tests for the virus, and fortunately are both negative..Neither of us has yet received ANY letter from the NHS informing us of any dates for possible vaccinations in the near future, and I am almost 62yrs and my wife is only 57yrs old..Scary is an understatement at the present time with a person POSSIBLY living not too far away,we are both keeping any social distancing, when I am either doing any essential shopping,or when driving my wife to any appointments at the hospital, doctors,or a dentist...Hopefully this person WILL be found, and any known contacts with them are treated for any forms of possible infection.

Without wanting to make light of the situation - let's hope the virus knows that!

This article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-54872039 says that 'Parts of the PR9 area in Southport' will be surge tested. It does not say which parts.

BBC 1 North West Tonight presenter Roger Johnson mentioned the word "Norwood" during the report last night.
Could be Norwood Ave, Norwood Rd and surrounding areas.

In order to spot emerging variants in the UK, random samples of PCR tests are sent for genome sequencing. This is how the variant was spotted in multiple areas of the UK. It's guaranteed that if cases were found in random spot checks of PCR tests, there are a lot more cases of the S. African variant out there. Please be careful, all of you.
It's the UK variant that's spreading like wildfire here. Apparently PCR tests will identify this variant dues to a missing S genome. These tests are then sent for sequencing to confirm the variant.
Maybe you're not aware of it, but at the beginning of the pandemic the UK government had the forethought to invest in a genomics consortium which has been sequencing SARS-Cov-2 genomes as fast as it can. The UK is responsible for around 50% of the world's genome data. This enables them to respond quickly to new variants identified in the community. Scientists the world over are using your consortium's data and lauding your scientist's work. From Canada... thank you.

I recommend the FB group Covid-19 Southport Support Group for up to date and reliable information, plus practical advice and support, especially if you are trying to deal with all this on your own or need help with things like shopping. They have cleared up a lot of the confusion around making appointments for vaccination and are sorting out the latest PR9 situation.
The admins make every attempt to verify information on the site and have no truck with anit-vaxxers or conspiracy theorists.
I've found it very useful.

I imagine that the best course of action is to stay home and wait to be contacted, unless you have to go out anyway.
Got to be the safest thing to do, surely?

Tesco is in Kew Ward not Norward (sic).
The BBC seems to have some info which points to the Norwood Ave area ie between Roe Lane and Bispham Road
