Covid crisis in India - Should we give up our vaccines made in India?
India is in crisis with the virus, many of the doses we have had were made in India, many more doses we have on order will be made there. Should we give up those doses, should we also give them the equivalent number of doses we have already received to try to help them through the crisis?

Vaccines aren't going to save them. They need hospitals and oxygen.
Vaccines are a suppressant of the worse symptoms, Not a lot of use once you already have it.
Hopefully a wake up call to those that think this is going away. But I doubt it. People are inherently stupid.

Not entirely true. Several Indian states are reporting vaccine shortages.

India may be - but Pakistan and Bangladesh are not. Canada report 387 in ICU wards in Ottawa - but there are 400 hospitals in Ottawa and there are other patients in ICU not covid.

I was just thinking about going to bed, when the idiot alarm on my phone went off. I immediately checked the forum, and sure enough, there you were.
400 hospitals in Ottawa? Methinks you've gone a bit overboard with the zeros, Sunshine. There are 4 hospitals, including the children's hospital, which is also taking adult Covid patients now.
There are a few specialty hospitals... Geriatric/palliative care, mental health hospital and heart institute. If you include them, that's 7 hospitals.
Where did you get the 387 people in ICU from? Ottawa Public Health's daily report for today states there are 27 patients in ICU. This number doesn't include Covid patients who have been transferred from Toronto to Ottawa. At the beginning of this week Ottawa had 58 Covid patients in ICU. 17 were transfers, 41 were from the Ottawa area.
What we are finding now, is there is an increasingly large number of normally healthy young pregnant women being hospitalized with severe Covid. Toronto hospitals have reported that half or more of critically ill patients are pregnant women and a large percentage of them are on ventilators.
This is a truly dreadful disease. I can't imagine the worry these unfortunate women and their partners will go through. We can take stuff like this if it's only ourselves that will suffer, but our children, born or unborn, never. This is why I detest those who dismiss this disease. Have you no care for anyone but yourself?
Back on topic. I thought that India had now banned vaccine exports? And, yes, vaccine rich countries should help them. The US has tens of millions of AZ vaccine sitting around doing nothing. Biden claims that they don't need the AZ vaccine to meet demand, so he could help them out.

Even accepting your survival rates, with in excess of 340,000 new cases per day, this still equates to 10,500 deaths daily, so that’s OK I take it?

Aah India home to 140 Billionaires, a space programme, owners of a number of our famous companies and an absolute sh"t hole without even basic facilities for many of its citizens.
What we should send them is a working government it would be far more useful for them.

The last working government we sent them didn't end too well, perhaps we should swap.

I'm all in favour of sending aid to India and any other country who needs aid in fighting covid , as long as this country stays safe and our numbers remain at a safe level .
After all they are human beings and when this country needed an alley India came to our aid.
But this country must come first .

India did gain a lot from our rule.
We brought in an irrigation programme, which increased the amount of land available for farming by 8 times, developed a coal industry, which had not existed before. Public health and life expectancy increased under British rule, mainly due to improved water supplies and the introduction of quinine treatment against malaria etc etc
Perfect, definitely not,
but far far better than before or after.
