Public rights of way - southport

This path has been blocked off, but the path running from Princes Park, behind where the zoo was and out on to Marine Parade is a Public Right of Way having been used for more than sixty years as such. Not only is the Public Victoria Park being closed off for more and more days every year - but we are losing our public rights of way also. Are they trying to close off Southport altogether.? Footpath is shownb by dotted line:

Are there no notices explaining reasons for the closure?
Seems odd that they’d shut such a busy thoroughfare at this time of year while all the seafront amenities are open. It must be the most direct route for pedestrians to get from the town centre to the sea front.

It's not very clear where the path you mention is situated. As this is, presumably, controlled by Sefton MBC, then you perhaps should contact the council to find out the genuine facts.

Victoria Park's facilities and amenities were delegated to a third party organisation some years ago. Explanation:

I was down by Marine Lake last week, the path at the side of the lake as you approach the pier was closed off for repair work, perhaps they are doing some well need maintenance!

I can't see how closing a park to the public improves it, nor filling the park with caravans does much to improve it.

With all those caravans are there facilities to go with it like toilets/showers/places to empty chemical toilets/electricity points or is it a case of just make money without providing the usual facilities.

same as the park n ride on fairway its now a caravan site went past yesterday they were waiting at the gate to get in, has sefton council changed the use of the land? didnt see any planning apps

The last time caravans were on there, they were the unwanted travellers, don’t know if this is a repeat, but can’t imagine that caravans would be given permission to set up on there with no facilities whatsoever.

It's not marked as a public right of way on Ordnance Survey maps so it was presumably not a legally defined public right of way.
The area in question is leased to Pleasureland who have fenced the area off to provide more space for rides.
Just because there was a footpath doesn't mean it was a public right of way.
Far from "closing off Southport", space is being used to provide attractions.

It must be legal for them to put a gate across that little road, I think it’s to stop travellers, pleasureland we’re having trouble with people parking in front of their big gates and would rather you paid to park in their newly fenced off triangle car park. Disabled badge holders and users of the bowling club regularly parked there but I suppose they can still park roadside of the gate.

That will be good, there has been a great big crazy golf there before when BPB owned it, they spent umpteen thousands on building it, it was called moroccan golf or something like that. I remember it was at the base of the log flume close to the triangle car park, I am surprised if they give up good paying car parking space for it but I remember the last ( quite big ) crazy golf that was there did quite well. I will be having a go when they build it .

That is what it claims - but it is a 'For Profit' organisation using the Public Park given to the people of Southport. Why else would you get so many caravans, so regularly that reduce the area for people to enjoy. Each caravan, pays 'x' amount every night - the park only requires the grass to be cut. The pond has been improved but it is thought that is for the caravan people. Why would it need offices on site and four vehicles? Even the bandstand needs attention, more drainage need to be installed, the area around the children's section needs more drainage as does the caravan site. Why not let the local people manage the site?

It is a public right of way by prescription and has been for the past ninety years.

Take it up with the council, they are the ones who presumably passed the park over to a private organisation, the fact is Victoria Park is no longer a totally public space.
