The dates have been agreed for the brand new artisan markets taking place inside and outside Southport Market each month.
The market is currently undergoing a £1.4million transformation into a brand new food, drink and events venue in a project led by Sefton Council. £900,000 funding has come through Sefton Council with £500,000 through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
It will feature a play area, 10 food units and a feature bar, along with a flexible events space designed to host music and comedy gigs.
Blackhurst Butchers, which has been operating in the market for over 45 years, has moved into its brand new unit at the front of the building and is already operating.
Wood-fired pizza specialists 600 Degrees has also confirmed it will be taking a unit.
More traders are expected to be unveiled over the coming weeks.
Sefton Council has now approved a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order, which will temporarily close Market Street, Southport between its junction with King Street and the Market delivery entrance for the hosting of an outdoor market on every first Sunday of the month for the next 12 months. The new artisan markets will commence on Sunday, 6th June.
In his report to councillors, Sefton Council Head of Highways and Public Protection Dave Marrin said: “To improve the economic revival of Southport, particularly in the Market Quarter, the Manager of the market has requested that an outdoor market be introduced on Market Street.
“The location of the market will be on Market Street between its junction with King Street and the Market delivery entrance.
“The market will be held during normal Sunday trading hours of 11am and 4pm it will be held on the first Sunday of every month provisionally for the next twelve months.”
The proposed dates for the market are as follows:
Sunday 6th June 2021
Sunday 4th July 2021
Sunday 1st August 2021
Sunday 5th September 2021
Sunday 3rd October 2021
Sunday 7th November 2021
Sunday 5th December 2021
Sunday 2nd January 2022
Sunday 6th February 2022
Sunday 6th March 2022
Sunday 3rd April 2022
Sunday 1st May 2022
Dave Marrin said: “It is proposed that the market stalls will be placed on the carriageway of Market Street.
“To maintain health and safety for the stallholders and for the general public it is therefore necessary for a temporary Traffic Regulation Order to be put in place to close Market Street to all traffic. The Traffic Regulation Order will be in operation for the duration of the market between 6am and 6pm and to allow stallholders to set up and dismantle their stalls at the end of the day on the dates described.”
In a change to how it previously operated, Southport Market will be open on Sundays.
A Sefton Council spokesperson said: “Once complete, the new-look Southport Market will have 11 food and drink units serving up mouth-watering food, supported by fresh produce from Blackhursts Butchers and flexible event and market space.
“Included in this fantastic development we are working towards holding a regular artisan market, taking place every Sunday, both inside and the immediate area around the market building to compliment the amazing food and drink offer available seven days a week.”

You get what what you pay for. I’m sure the local spar will carry on selling you packets of processed plastic sliced sh*te. I’m really looking forward to this new venture opening and hopefully taking off.

Wow! You seem like a lovely person.
Now scurry along and untwist your knickers. Having to resort to insults again eh? Shows up your quite obvious lack of intelligence.

If this is even half as successful as the Baltic Market has been, it'll be a winner.
