Police have today, Friday 13th September, welcomed the sentencing of a 32-year-old man for manslaughter in Southport.
James Peter Gelling, of Hampton Road, Southport, assaulted 51 year-old Ventsislav Marginov, on Lord Street in the town on the evening of Saturday 1 June this year.
Mr Marginov, a Bulgarian national who was resident in Southport, sadly died in hospital three days later.
Gelling admitted manslaughter at an earlier court hearing and was today sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to six years in jail plus an extended four years on licence.
DI Gary Stratton said: “This was a particularly nasty and violent assault on an innocent man who had been out earlier in the evening with his two sons watching the Champions League final.
“Mr Marginov sadly never recovered from the injuries he suffered and he died in hospital.
“His family, and in particular his parents who still live in Bulgaria, have been left devastated by their loss and the senseless manner in which he died.
“Sadly no sentence, however long, will be able to bring him back, but I hope the knowledge that Gelling will be spending a considerable time behind bars will bring them a sense of closure and allow them to begin the grieving process.”
Should have hosed him off the market roof
years ago. No the PC brigade wouldn't have
liked that.
Yeah, let’s spray him with water from a hose pipe. Great deterrent that will bring closure on all his criminal activities. Wtf has that got anything to do with being politically correct? If your so eager to see the reintroduction of capital punishment, why don’t you do us all a favour and emigrate somewhere with Sharia law. Go and crawl back under your rock. IDIOT.
What was that three strikes and out mooted years ago, he has had a damn sight more than three he should be locked away permanently. Does some idiot think this is going to turn him into a human being, him and his obnoxious kin should be taken out of society.

It seems life is cheap for some.
What you would do with him is one of life's conundrums, his history is appalling and littered with innocent victims., many many times those he was caught for.
Clearly the present system struggles to deal with his like.
What a lovely message this sends to that poor man's family.
Simply put - your loved one's life was worth 3 years !
Exactly! The above editorial doesn’t contain any details about the assault, but the Daily Mail link posted by another user would suggest it was a completely unprovoked punch to the back of his head. Poor guy just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
