Can the desecration be reversed
Southport is only a shadow of what it used to be, but can the desecration ever be reversed?
Councils are supposed to act to improve areas and facilities for people in the area - that is their duty. But this is not apparent in Southport.
Southport had a joint council at one time that did help the local situation which was not wanted by our Bootle council, so it had to be scrapped. Is our council a democratic council or a dictatorship?
Our council complains about the high costs involved in Southport due to the town having a large aging population? Whatever that means, people begin aging as soon as they are born. Anyway, this complaint by the council, is an attempt to hide the fact that it is the council who have been instrumental in creating such a problem. Allow more old people's homes to be built, give them all free bus passes, entice the elderly to Southport. Now that Covid has run riot, most of those homes should be half empty, and it is time to re-purpose those buildings.
If this council was seriously considering a younger population as being more desirable for the economy, the council should have concentrated on providing industrial units and work places to create jobs for young people, and to create more areas like the Plaza for more social life.
The future Council plans published do not include for a fairground - just more hotels. A conference centre is planned for the town? No-one I know locally was invited to take part in this decision. I have attended many conferences. Most have been in central locations near a motorway. You turn up to listen to some garbled proposals, take a vote and get out of the place as soon as respect allows. Southport has had several conference centres, the reason they do not exist now supports the fact that they were not a good idea in the first place. So, Southport will have yet another empty eyesore building ruining a good potential tourist area. A huge Southport Eye wheel has been proposed for Princes Park? If this is considered a huge attraction, then why not build it on the Fairground next door? Oh no, put it on a park where people go to play football games or sit down and enjoy the views on a nice day. After all, Victoria park is all but closed to the people it was granted to as it is considerably more profitable for caravan parking. Even that is poorly managed, it has been made into a flatland that floods regularly instead of having banked mounds to alleviate the water build up as it used to. So a big metal wheel - where such structures have become so common everywhere across the UK that they are no longer an attraction - will stand rusting on the park from the salt water winds incoming from the sea. Why not create something entirely different and in a more central area?
Is the council really intent on ruining Southport? Is this to encourage local residents to vote for Labour - not a chance if they cannot do better than they have! Or is it that they have so little imagination? Even the business people have given up - and who can blame them? These people were paying more and more not a central purse for no benefit whatever, where was that money spent? Lights on trees? A few flower pots? That is sure to encourage shoppers/tourists, not!

Moans about Southport being a ‘shadow of what it used to be’, then goes on to complain bitterly about the millions being invested by the council and local businesses to improve attractions and facilities for tourism as well as locals.

You seem nice.
The future Council plans published do not include for a fairground
We have a fairground which has a long term partnership deal with the council for expansion. Work has started on their adventure golf course at the fairground. Planning has gone in for a new rollercoaster.
Southport has had several conference centres,
Several? Where were they?

It's being sited where the derelict toilet block is. It's not going to affect the actual park itself. (But what views do people enjoy from the at-sea-level Princes Park - surely the views will be better from the big wheel?)
Have you been on the sherry again this afternoon?
It's about time your unsubstantiated lies were banned from this website for good.

Can't understand that he's posted loads of times and this is certainly not his worst.

There was an online public consultation last year. Replacement of the theatre and convention centre was the most popular proposal.

Is that why they've increased their share of the vote in general elections from 9% to 39% in 9 years? It's nailed on for a Labour win at the next one.
Is that why they've gone from 0 councillors in Southport to 7?

Unlike yourself, alcohol means nothing to me.
Are you just dim or lazy, do you read anything or do you wait until someone tells you on your television? Just have a read of this and you may learn something. You either have an extremely short memory or you are not a local person. The local people are very concerned. None of these plans have been discussed with local people.

Roller Coaster? OK, just how many people visit the fairground now? How many rides are often closed? What are the views of people to the cost of the fairground? The fairground is closed to the beach side - have you ever worked on a fairground?
Conference Centres? Prince of Wales, The Royal Clifton Hotel, The Scarisbrick Hotel, The Floral Hall, The Ramada, etc., etc., There is no viable reason for an independent Conference Centre in Southport
As I said - why the park? Why not the Fairground? The Marine Bridge has already fallen into disrepair, most of the lights are broken and the bridge structure itself is looking dirty. The Ramada building itself has become a white elephant! Metal deteriorates fast due to the ocean salts - who will be maintaining this wheel? When will it be running - not in winter surely, and not when it rains - wow! what a feature. Why not do something different, why not a Zip Line instead? Or an Air Kix? How about an African Bush set up? Big wheels are dated and has probably been dreamed up by someone who lives in the seventies! An aquarium would be nice! There are limited swimming facilities. There is a big lack of facilities for young people - how about a teenagers play park? It only takes a bit of imagination - this is also sadly lacking in this town. It is tax payers money being used here - so a lot more thought should be applied and by those who are capable of using it.

The vote for Labour has increased because so many Labour voters have moved into Southport from Liverpool. The number of Labour voters in Liverpool decreased substantially! The turn out was greatly decreased and Old Swan alone really took a hit on Labour. Ask any of the local people. The only way that Labour voters can be enticed into Southport is by cheap housing and cheap alcohol, before it was far too expensive in Southport. If the voters had any loyalty at all, they would never have left Liverpool. If Liverpool area council is undertaking the future planning of Southport so that Southport becomes like Liverpool - where will these voters move to then? Further into North Lancashire? That is Conservative held. Southport is a far better place under Conservative than Liverpool is under Labour - that is why the voters are moving out of Liverpool in the thousands. Hey, Don't kid yourself, Labour man!

That is because you don't read much at all. You do not seem to have local sympathies either. If you move into a new area you follow the local people, you do not bring your old ideals with you - other wise, what was the point in you moving at all.

Apart from the fact that you write utter garbage, it's absolutely certain that I've lived in this town far, far longer than you have (100 per cent of my own life in fact) and have had a far greater input towards its past, present and future than you could ever dream about.
That's on a reading or writing basis or, indeed, anything else you wish to drag up.
I don't know what you might be taking or drinking, but it's probably long past the time when you really should have given either or both up for good.

Perhaps you should keep yourself up to date with current plans rather than a document from 5 years ago.

What a load of rubbish, People move areas for many reasons very often it is for work or for retirement to the seaside or 'the cottage in the country'. I can predict that the reason for moving because of the political status of the Ward / Council or Constituency would be minuscule in any survey.
Liverpool Council is not undertaking any planning for the future of Southport, it never has, never will.
Oh and by the way Southport has not had a Conservative Council for over 30 years and has only recently elected a Elected a Conservative MP after many years of Liberal Democrat MP's, Similarly Liverpool has a variety of MPs of different political persuasions and not too long ago had a Liberal Council.
