Having been trapped on motorways in standing traffic too many times, I dread using them. When the alternative of 'normal' roads isn't practical, I always try to make the trip overnight when traffic is lighter......Lucky we did so last night, on returning from Derbyshire. The M6 was reduced to one lane right through the roadworks. I can't imagine how bad the delay will have been at that location during daylight hours.

Worst journey was 1999 driving back from seeing the eclipse, took 14 hours!!
I was there then - no traffic problems because we were camping out. It was very windy on the campsite, so every night we 'borrowed' a couple of loose stones off the nearby wall to anchor the tent down - and every morning when we woke up - the camp manager had quietly taken them back. That went on every day we were there.

Motorways are great when they flow I really appreciate the links we have avoiding the slow traffic through our old mill towns.

Agree.....I've never had any problems using the motorway over to Darwen and beyond. Or for that matter, the motorway from Switch Island to Skem.......Seems to be the busy ones that suffer all the holdups, like the M6 and M62.

The infamous Sinister Island!
Today we loaded the bikes drove to Dunsop Bridge cycled into the Forest of Bowland.
On the way home the usual scrum where the Accrington bypass and the Haslingden bypass join.

Great place.
We visited last month courtesy of a holiday booked/delayed by Covid.
Also visited many other attractions.
Tedious car journey back.
Reminds of why we do not go there often.

Quote
"Where has the money come from?
The Millennium Commission weighed in with £37.5 million of Lottery funding to single Eden out as the ‘landmark’ project of the far South West, and their subsequent contributions brought the total to just over £56 million. We hope we’ve delivered for them and for anyone who's ever bought a Lottery ticket.
Other major sources of funding included the EU and Southwest Regional Development Agency (some £50 million between them, including £26 million towards capital funding from the EU) and £20 million of commercial loans. The balance was made up of £8 million of other loans and some funds generated by Eden itself and reinvested back into the Project."

Nice spot. I passed through there last year when I 'did' the Trough, as D.B. is on the Lancashire Cycleway....Enters/leaves D.B. via Trough Rd and Whitewell/Dunsop Rd.
Today, nothing so glamourous. Rode out for couple tins paint and this evening collected takeaway for a family member. Sunday rode the Monsall (rail) Trail, Monday rode the Nutbrook Trail.....Found both in Sustrans guidebook: 'Traffic-Free Cycle Rides - 150 Great Days Out'.

Before leaving we tested negative on our home Covid testing kit.
Driving through Accrington a sign greeted us with the message 'Be Positive'.
They should sort it out!
