COVID testing for Liverpool
Mass testing for Covid starts in Liverpool, hope this works and gets some control over the virus, but spare a thought for the soldiers drafted in to run the test sites, using Pontins for accommodation, poor sods must think it’s a punishment detail.

Served our country then shoved in Pontins?
That's just cruel.

I'm sure they've been trained to cope with much worse.

Much apart from putting our troops in that fleapit, Britannia Hotels must be laughing all the way to the bank.
The worst hotel chain bar none. I don't think most of their properties are fit for regular guests, so they are basically living off asylum seekers, and now our soldiers.
Back to the OP, it sounds like a good idea to try mass testing. My only doubts are that those who step forward for the test are probably the decent folk who will follow lockdown rules anyway. I imagine those who DGAF won't bother going for a test, and they are possibly those spreading the virus.
Not all, of course, I am generalising. I suppose it's worth a go to see if they can contain the infected.

The possible downside as you say that the idiots will be the ones to not participate and even if they do will still ignore should they have to isolate.
Last night a typical denier was busily spouting that even after a test anyone could still contract the virus, of course that’s possible, but the concept is based on repeat fortnightly testing, which should track the virus if everyone follows it through.

Is there any point in taking part when one of the test being used fails to pick up half the positive cases?

Of course there's a possibility that someone can test negative, then catch the virus a day later, but hopefully this lockdown might slow the spread enough to get past that.
I know both the PM and the Justice Sec. have been criticised for blaming the public for the failure to follow the regulations properly, and that isn't the whole story, but in their defence the virus doesn't move on its own.

Illegal immigrants aren't put in hotels. Asylum seekers are, until their claims are processed. Fact check.
Our troops are going to give the chalets a good bottoming before they leave? Whereas asylum seekers just crap in the corner?
