Old Trafford Pitch Invasion
What action should be taken against Man Utd for action of some fans breaking into the ground and staging a demonstration on the pitch?
I was under the impression that fans who turn up in the vicinity of football grounds when a match was being staged were 'moved on' by the police, there have been numerous reports in the press about this and warnings to fans not to turn up.
It is reported that due to fixture congestion it is going to be difficult to rearrange so I think that apart from a hefty fine the match and points should be awarded to Liverpool and possibly a penalty of minus points be awarded for next season, it is the only way to get through to the brain dead fans.
I also assume that any fans removed by the Police from the stadium will be prosecuted.

I agree with the demonstration. I don't agree with the actions taken inside the ground.
I think most United fans would happily see the club relegated for a season if it meant getting the Glazers out. That's how angry they are, and have been since 2005. Supposedly one of the richest clubs in the world, and the stadium is a rat infested rust bucket. They've put nothing into the club, literally. And taken 100s of millions out.
I didn't like the damage the protesters caused, I don't think it was necessary. Then again, when has peaceful protest achieved anything?
Disappointing, but I totally understand the emotion behind it. I'm sure there will be a hefty fine and points deducted.

I fear the law of unintended consequences is at play here.
There are those in society who are only too willing to go beyond what is peaceful and lawful protest.
They are encouraged in this by clarion calls from some quarters that urge excess as a right and earnestly believe them to be justified.
Add to the mix the way Police are subjected to forensic scrutiny in every action conducted, often quite unfairly in my opinion. This is exacerbated by critisism from those who have no experience or knowledge of crowd control techniques that prevent the Police from acting robustly where appropriate.
You reap what you sow!

I watched this on the news last night. Vast majority of the fans who had congregated outside were there for a peaceful protest. Most seemed quite shocked and surprised by the violent minority and many at this stage called it a day and went home. They definitely have a valid gripe with the Glazer family.

It appears that the Police need to be under even more scrutiny, please defend the Police actions in the attached video.

This is exactly the point I made earlier - people passing judgement without experience or knowledge.
Ask anyone who knows (clearly you don't), and they will tell you swift, firm and decisive actions are safer for the detainee and those detaining.
Or - have I got it wrong? Are you suggesting the slashing of an Officer's face was a proportionate response to the methods used during this individual's arrest?

Watch the video.
It appears he was stood alone by a parked truck in an open area in full view of everyone, a number of police ran to him, grabbed him and dragged him 20yds face down behind a line of parked Police vans out of view threw to the ground and one starts laying into him, then when he realises he's being filmed he start chasing the cameramen away then blocks their view to try to stop them filming.
What had been his behaviour prior to this? He was stood alone
Had he been violent towards others? Nobody close to him.
Was the action proportionate if he's kicking out? No, he had been grabbed with both arms up his back and was being dragged face down.
Or - have I got it wrong? Yes have it totally wrong , this was nothing to do do with the officer getting bottled.

I have had dozens of appalling videos of whatwent on. It can only be described as a riot with hundreds involved outside thestadium. I have videos shared with me that show the police officers on thereceiving end of hundreds of glass bottles being thrown at them. Some hittingthem, and some smashing only millimetres from their heads. The police have beensubjected to all sorts things thrown at them from bottles to punches.
I also feel very sorry for the guy with the 3 -4inch facial scar that he has been left with. I don't know if he was an officialor a police officer.
What has got me upset is Gary Neville and RoyKeane condoning the actions of the fans.
Only last week Neville was inciting a riot withhis "march on the stadium" bollocks. He is the instigator of all ofthis. Then he was trying to say that the fans actions were"understandable" and how all other fans should stand up and supportthem. Appalling from him.
Only a year ago, he was fawning over the glaziers. Now because the super league threatened the profits of his employers, he hascome out with brazen rhetoric inciting what went on yesterday. He should hanghis head in shame, but from what I can see he doesn't seem apologetic at all.
The hypocrisy about the ESL is startling. Sky didthe exact same thing to start the premier league. If the ELS had taken off, then the value of their broadcasting rights would have plummeted. Oh, andconveniently all of his employees are up in arms with rage and inciting riots. It amazes me how people cannot see this.

He wasn't stood alone. He could be viewed as being involved in an altercation with another by the truck???? He wasn't dragged face down. He may be 'wanted'. He may have a violent history - we don't know.
What is clear is - several Police Officers saw fit to move in quickly on this particular individual. I can't imagine they acted so decisively because they fancied a bit of exercise.
I do however agree that the punches to the legs appear unnecessary but, having said that, it was at the lower end of excessive force.
What the bleeding hearts don't or won't realise is that a vastly outnumbered Police presence is very often all that stands between us and the mob.
If someone gets a few taps on his legs, in the course of Policing an extremely challenging situation - I can live with that.
Those who can't should stay at home, get their cardigans on and pick up their knitting.

You're a lone voice, the Police Complaints Commission are investigating now.

...and that makes me a lone voice - I rather think you hold that distinction. There are those who won't be satisfied until every arrest is preceded with a risk assessment and a duty of care statement - pathetic!

You are not a lone voice, but reading some of the comments it is obvious mobs are more valuable members of society than those trying to keep this a safe place.
No one on here knows what went on
No one on here knows the background of the bloke.
No one on here knows the feeling of being a minority attacked by the majority
Everyone on here wouldn't bat an eyelid if three blokes attacked a Bobbie
Everyone on here seems to resent the Police being able to do their job
Everyone on here seems to think he was being punched in the face
If mob violence was the norm everybody would be moaning "where are the Police"
The Police can't win if only criminals were scrutinised as much as the Police perhaps it would be a better country but NO let's stop the police doing their job.
What a bunch of faint hearted ne'er do wells.

We can only go on what we see on the video, nothing appeared to be happening then some Police ran to him, grabbed him then dragged him 20 yards to an area obscured by Police vehicles, one threw him to the ground another held onto him and a third laid into him.
