Lucky for you but some really need that.
You can always send it back or give it to charity if it's a problem.

I got a letter as did my wife saying we each get the allowance surely ONE letter telling you that you are being given £200 to cover the household would save a lot of money than telling each of us that it is going into our Joint Bank Account.

Thought it was one payment per household.
Don't go to bed angry. Stay up and plot your revenge.

£200 per qualifying household so if there's 2 you get £100 each 3 of you and it's £66.67 (a penny extra to squabble over)

Know as the Winter Wine Allowance amongst those who get it but don't need it. It's about time a stop was put on it along with scrapping pension rises in excess of inflation. The nation is skint and we're all in this together.

We give ours to an elderly relative who is much more in need of it than we are. Anyone who doesn't need it can always use it to bring a little happiness to someone else.

Pensions in UK are lower than many countries, above inflation rises produce savings in other areas. No Government has the balls to abolish it or the £10 Christmas Bonus, Camerons Government missed a trick when they revamped the pension, they could have consolidated it.

I thought that was only paid when the weather was really cold - it isn't yet?

That's a different thing - it's called the Cold Weather Payment, if the temperature in your area falls below zero degrees Celsius for 7 or more consecutive days between November and March.
It's only available to people on certain benefits, and you have to apply for it.
The £200 Winter Fuel Payment is automatically paid to everyone born on or before 5 October 1954 and is not living with anyone else who qualifies. As posted above, the £200 is split if more than one person in the same household qualifies.

Shame that we have the lowest pension rates of any industrialised nations in Europe, but sure let’s continue the dash to the bottom.
In reality keep pensions lower will probably only put more people into the qualifying brackets for additional benefits, doubt there would be much saving at all.

Even that is a lottery, there was a piece on the NW News a few years ago when part way along a road it changed from one authority to another.
Houses in one Authority got it whilst nearby houses in the other authority didn't. If the measuring point for Authority A is only two miles away whilst the Measuring point for Authority B could be say 10-15 miles away and the temperature is different, one higher than the other. A stupid way of doing things.

Maybe but find a better way, the weather can change quite dramatically in a couple of miles.
