We really need a coffee shop/bar there's literally yards without one, people are collapsing on the street with dehydration.

Well if the rumours are true then a big chain wouldn't be interested in doing that unless there was a demand for it.
As for Debenhams, when you sell a far far bigger range on your own website than your do in your own storss then your stores don't stand much of a chance.

Southport may not be lacking in hotels per sé but it is lacking in hotels of a decent standard. You wouldn't put a dog in The Scarisbrick and The Prince of Wales & Royal Clifton aren't much better.
Thrre are countless B&B's of varying standards but people want good quality hotels, clean, & modern.

Lord Street North will be dead
Lord Street South is dead and the bit in the middle is asleep.

Why would it be dead, if a hotel & bar opens up that would attract people. It couldn't be much worse than it is now, it would attract more people than a drab department store, Debenhams has been run down for years.

Maybe if people shopped in Debenhams rather than shoplifting from it things might have been better for them. Their loses must be enormous.
I'd welcome any big chain of a bar/ hotel and all the people it would bring, it's much better than another empty premises.
It is actually a beautiful building it would be a sin if it was just left empty.
Let's hope whoever's going in there maintains the buildings character and retains its period features.

We need it more than we need a huge empty store falling into disrepair like other premises on Lord Street.
Quality hotels are in short supply in Southport. There are a few smaller ones but other than the Vincent, no larger ones of any quality, Bliss (former Ramada) being the best of a dreadful bunch.

well yes that's true.in view of the dreadful decline of standards of the towns former so called premier hotels, that are letting themselves aswell as their town down, then maybe it could be of benefit.trouble is does the town have anything left to come back from ,to draw those guests!and make it a profitable proposition.
