That's neglect,
a deficit in meeting a child's basic needs, including the failure to provide adequate supervision, health care, clothing, or housing, as well as other physical, emotional, social, educational, and safety needs.
the size of the accommodation is irrelevant he could be neglected in Buckingham Palace.
He didn't go to Disneyland.
OK, putting the initial journey from London to Durham to one side, how do you explain / defend his journey from Durham to Barnard Castle and back approx 60 miles.
Bearing in mind the following:-
He was potentially unfit to drive due to impaired vision.
He was potentially a danger to himself, other road users and pedestrians
Why if he was unsure / concerned of his ability to drive safely did he take his wife and 4 year old child with him, potentially endangering them.
Why did he choose to drive to a beauty spot and spend time there, I know that part of the country pretty well and there are plenty of lovely country drives.
Was it a coincidence that it just happened to be his wife’s birthday and they spent time by the river.
At that time you were not allowed to travel any distance even to exercise, let alone a 60 mile round trip, not for exercise but to sit at a beauty spot.
He blatantly ignored safety advice about driving if you felt that your vision was impaired.

Pray tell us what the alternatives i have missed are because one is putting your child in care which I freely admit I wouldn't.
Perhaps you might tell us exactly what you would do with your child in their position?

Well that's easy he was passed as fit to go back to work but his sensibly cautious wife said they should test him before the long drive as he had been very ill including problems with his eyesight.
At no point has he or anyone else suggested that his vision at the time of his drive was impaired.
If he is telling the truth on timing then his wife's birthday jaunt was very short lived if he isn't then almost inevitably CCTV or dashcam evidence will come out, then he has to go if he is being dishonest.
Beauty spot or Asda if it isn't correct then off he goes if his recollection is palpably wrong.
As you say there are plenty of beauty spots around there why go to a well known one if he is behaving wrongly.
Durham Police aren't interested to boot.

I notice the provo and loyalist paramilitaries over the water have decided that the restrictions on funerals don't apply to them.
Big big difference in approach by the politicos though - First and Deputy First Ministers, from either side of the divide, roundly condemned them.
Bit of a lesson in integrity there methinks!

There is no denying his little jaunts around the country, you push the child situation as your only defence, in his position I am fairly sure he would have had access to all and any assistance needed.
As far as Durham Police are concerned I’ve no doubt a few words in the right ears will have quite an effect.

I'm certain that one of their friends parents or one of the neighbours would help.

It's not just in Ireland there have been quite a few this side of the Irish Sea as well, the Police say they can't do anything about it without causing a scene at a funeral, they would probably lose as well.
It is outrageous that Funerals have the stiffest restrictions especially when you are allowed out for as long as you want as often as you want and wherever you want, it makes you think that the authorities don't want funerals publicised so people are unaware of the real death toll.

It is the only defence if he was just going for a trip to see his parents then sack him.
Are you now suggesting Durham Police have would lose their integrity over Cummings ?

Here's my child, he has a learning disability,he might have coronavirus,we won't be around for who knows how long we have it oh and he's security risk because of my work with the government.
Bye neighbour
See you whenever, do you really think that's likely or even a reasonable ask.
Were back to the only thing wrong for the whiners is distance.
The man has been working all hours for the good of the country he takes his child off to his parents worried about the future and people whine its pathetic.
He is an essential worker.
If he had been one of the sit at homes then you might have a point.

Essential to who exactly? He certainly isn't essential to the country or are you saying Johnson can't function without him?
Following your train of thought if he is so important to the running of the country, frankly he shouldn't be, he is a political hired hand how much authority he carries should only be very limited, or do you think this guy actually runs the country? if so it's a pretty bad indictment for democracy, government, and the Tories.

They are taking everyone for fools!

That's very convenient. It's a new tactic after very few are interested in 'moving on'.
"I'm going anyway" has the tone of a petulant child.
"Go to your room"
"I'm going anyway, so there".
Almost as believable as testing your eyes by driving. The 'master manipulator' seems to have lost his edge. He's going to have to come up with a better slogan than 'I'm going anyway'. If Johnson thinks the country will just say 'Oh, he's going anyway, that's alright then', he's a bigger idiot than I thought.
