Residents & businesses are strongly urged to submit their views regarding a neighbourhood consultation that may bring new cycle lanes and closed roads into the area.
Lee Durkin who is continuing his best efforts to support the area, is hoping that as many residents & businesses take part in the Sustrans neighbourhoods consultation which could include proposals for cycle lanes and reduced accessibility for cars if authorised.
Mr. Durkin, a cyclist himself has stated “There are far better locations for this venture that would have a better result for everyone without impacting negatively on businesses and residents living around the affected area.”
Mr. Durkin said: “I am hoping that as many people as possible can put forward their thoughts regarding this latest consultation, which if ignored may bring additional cycle lanes into an unsuitable part of Birkdale and Southport.”
Lee added: “Had existing government guidelines permitted I would have canvassed for feedback door to door directly, however with the extension granted I hope that as many people as possible can now do their part to support the community here.”
“The consultation now finishes on 21st February 2021. People can submit their views straight to Sustrans and complete the consultation online. Whilst I personally feel the questions are largely directed in favour of the proposals, I would recommend everyone at least email their views direct if in doubt.”
“I am doing what I can to prevent another nightmare for residents and businesses and can only remind people of the importance of not ignoring these consultations when they are active. This time there is a chance to still have your input if you decide this consultation is not right for you, your business, or if you feel it is right for you.”
An entirely biaised consultation exercise! As I reside two streets outside the highlighted area I'm not permitted to participate in the Consultation...... Sefton democracy at it's usual best, Not!!
More wasted money and absence of democracy from our regular 'cyclo-facists'...
They can consult as many people as they like. Type out copious A4 sheets as to the pros and cons. Sefton council will just do what the hell they like and build them.
Pointless exercise. Their only goal is to destroy Southport.
It is a totally pointless exercise engaging with the “consultation process”, the Marxist Councillors at the Politburo in Bootle have already decided what is going to happen. The more people that protest will only add to their resolve to crush the wishes of Southport’s residents.

You really need help with your persecution complex.
Are the majority of Southport people cyclists?
Are the majority of Southport people non-cyclists?
If the latter, can it be reasonably expected that in a town with an above average number of elderly people, that the number of cyclists could be greatly increased by giving greater priority to the increase of cycle lanes?
How many people (including cyclists) can be expected to benefit from the proposed changes?
How many people will be inconvenienced by the proposed changes?
Answers to those questions should be the basis - and provide the conclusions to any consultation on the subject.

Meaningful exercise, preferably done outdoors, is essential to maintain a healthy body and mind....This is never more true, than for retirees. Who happily have plenty of time on their hands, to take up a healthy activity like golf or cycling - ask any doctor!

Laughable! There's no demand for cycle lanes nor is there increased demand for new golf coursrs, where do you get it from Muppet!
Building for future demand is floored, it will not materialise, therefore it is a total waste of Public funds. If there is demand it is in Boothill so build some of them down there! All you promote is your facist agenda for your own personal highway, not to be shared with anyone else....

I'm 'floored' by your dismissal of one of the healthiest forms of exercise known to man......You'll never get more people, especially from the older generation, onto bikes - until you provide safe space for them. Unless of course, you don't want more bikes about, because you see cyclists as a nuisance?
