No council money was used to purchase the centre. A loan paid for it. The income from the Strand is more than covering the repayments.

1) Loans usually have to be paid back with interest!
2) Is the income from the strand in the form of higher rents?
We only have to look at the market to see what this does.
3) My understanding is that Sefton paid nearly £700,000 for professional services advice on the purchase.
Where did the £700,000 come from, did the councillor's have a whip round?
(This is reminiscent of Metro mayor Steve Rotheram's claim that his newly created post wouldn't cost the council tax payer a penny)

The council have ruined this town, just look when the council let Blackpool burn down our historic wooden rollercoaster, how about not having enough money left for the red tarmac on Lord Street and getting rid of the courts and police cells.

Interesting to see people complaining about Charity shops and mentioning Bootle in the same post.
This search shows 31 charity shops centred around Southport Station ...
https://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAc...96048#view=map
Same link shows 27 charity shops centred around Bootle New Strand Station...
https://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAc...78112#view=map
Make of that what you will.
Is this because one area is more deprived than the other or is it more to do with spending power (i.e. distribution based upon need or potential revenue)?
Is it to do with set up/running costs (rates/rents etc) being different in each area?
If we divert money from Bootle to Southport (which seems to be the general implication) how will that impact on the distribution of these Charity shops - if at all?
I don't know the answers, but do think it's a cheap and easy shot to blame Sefton Council and the distribution of its (ever dwindling ... and don't mention austerity) finances ... the situation is a bit more complex than that and requires more thought than a jerk of a knee.

The council spent over 12 million pounds on the Atkinson. This wasn't via a loan or such, but straight out of council coffers. Same with last Southport Market refurb which took 4 million out of council funds. But those 2 projects are ok because they're in Southport ?

this place is nothing short of a dictatorship. I wouldnt recommend anyone to apply for a job here. The manager at the strand is moody and childish. The owners do not acknowledge the staff. There is no team playing.

All life in Bootle centers around the “New Strand” shopping centre, infamous for being the place where James Bulger was kidnapped from before he was murdered.
Despite its attempts to brighten itself up, it is still a s**t-hole of enormous proportions. The shops – everything a c**v heart could desire – Greggs (or the slightly more upmarket local variant “Sayers”), endless awful sports shops and dubious “trade” stores where scallies allegedly bring in stolen iphones and tablets in exchange for cash (which they then take into Supercigs to buy 10 Lambert and Butler). Throw in a smattering of the standard B&M Bargains, Brighthouse, Maccy D’s etc, and it’s like a little C**v ecosystem.
Apart from the strand, there is bugger all else. A library where c***s can go and rip up books and a Magistrate Court where C**v mums and grans go to shout abuse at police vans, in the hope that they might contain a paedophile. (Bootle Reviews)

Not at all! The council wasted money on the Atkinson completely! The prices increased, the premises were put under very poor management who really would not know how to run a charity stall let alone a museum and gallery,.Instead of being a community area it is now very clinical and unfriendly.
The council invested, I believe around £4 million on the indoor market a few years back - arrogantly believing that they knew better than the local people. The council tried to turn it into a chic style market that everyone said would not work. It didn't!
Again, just a few years later - the Council are investing another £3 million into the indoor market, again without listening to the people who are fully aware of the local area - and watch! It will fail completely! Fool's and their money are easily parted!
The Strand was purchased when there were clear indications that markets were changing! The council paid £several hundred for poor advice on this venue, probably thinking that such expense meant that they were being given excellent advice. They could have saved that money and asked the local people of Bootle, who would have told them, no doubt exactly - what was wrong with The Strand. The place has been a white elephant from the day it was built and has had far more money spent on unpopular modernisation ever since.

Seriously. There is one of these on Southport with similar comments haha. Would you like me to post that too ? Can't believe you have googled some random pages and believe them to be true ?
