'Friends of Southport' recently asked on their group what people would like to bring back to the town and also what they disliked.
The most popular suggestion was to bring back an outdoor pool. Many will remember the glorious Sea Bathing Lake which was sadly demolished in 1993.
Other popular things mentioned were to bring back the hovercraft which ran from Southport beach to Blackpool as a much appreciated short cut, rather than using the roads, and the reinstatement of Childrens’ A and E to Southport.
Residents were also asked what one thing they would get rid of, given the power! These included - grass on the beach, parking fines, cycle lanes and Sefton Council!
It seems that if the majority of Residents would like an outdoor pool it could at least be brought forward for consideration, if residents needs are listened to. Some have suggested it would be a good tourism booster as well.

I preusme qlocal is now dead as a news site and is just a mutual appreciation society for Friends of Southport where we can just read a duplication of people's opinions from Facebook.

Stop being silly and even insulting. There is a large mix of news here and you know it. Linking with social media in Southport has benefitted Qlocal greatly in more content.

Bring back the Burscough curves on the rail network,to let the people of Southport get to other UK destinations easier, and it will also benefit the tourists who also come to Southport as well.It will stop the ever increasing traffic delays in and out of southport as well, with most visitors getting here by road to get to watch or visit any attractions,as in the Southport Flower Show,Airshow,Firework Championships etc.

I would like to see welcome signs at the three main routes into Southport that read,
“Welcome to the County Borough of Southport”, with the Salus Populi crest.

Copied and pasted press releases. No actual journalism.

Bring back Maxim’s flying machine. It was pinched from Southport by the pleasure beach Blackpool years ago and is one of the oldest rides in Europe and one of my favourite rides on the site.

It would appear that “onehorsetown” doesn’t consider Southport to be his one town.
He probably prefers to be a part of the Federal Republic of Bootle.

I was born and brought in Southport when it was the county borough of Southport but we are no longer large enough to be an independent. So many people use sefton as a whipping boy blaming them for everything when Lancashire is also in a terrible state due to government cuts. I would also remind you that the Labour party is makeing large inroads in Southport and with the current state of the Tory party it may well take the next step of having a labour mp.

The buses are owned by Arriva so why would they repaint their buses in non Arriva colours.

Arriva has its own colour - why should it pay large sums to repaint its buses just to suit you?
In case you haven't noticed, there are some buses from a private company that are in your preferred colours.....

Surprised that the "Friends of Southport" didn't vote for bringing back:
- 1950s
- 1960s
- Anything pre-Merseyside
- Streetname signs only being white on blue
- Imperial measurements
- The Danelaw
