I completely understand from my conversations with constituents just how difficult it is to access such appointments. Many are simply told to ring up at 8am, only to find they are far down a long queue, and have to wait on hold for an unacceptable length of time before they can actually book.
It is clear that we need more capacity put into phone lines to help alleviate these pressures on local health services. Crucially, we also need far more physical appointments on offer to ensure that everybody for whom a virtual or phone appointment isn’t appropriate is still able to see a healthcare professional and get the care that they deserve.
I want to assure my constituents that I will do everything I can to rectify these issues. If you are experiencing any difficulties securing an appointment yourself, please contact my office directly and we will do all we can to assist:

If people are waiting in telephone queues it is clear that more capacity in the phone lines is irrelevant.
More staff answering calls or less people phoning at peak times are the way to reduce the queue time.

Several ways to do this
a) More GPs. This will take at least 7 years
b) Recruit GPs from outside the UK
c) Transfer and retrain Hospital doctors
d) Each GP to work longer hours
e) Less virtual or telephone appointments.
f) Scrap appointments and operate a "take a number" system in GPs surgeries.
Which approach does Damien support?
Personally, I think we need to reduce the number of people demanding physical appointments.
Virtual and telephone consultations are a valid and more efficient use of a GPs time. The art is getting the balance between these and face to face correct.
Incidentally, I recently needed a face to face appointment with my Ainsdale GP, but was so far down the telephone queue that I couldn't get even a phone or virtual appointment.
So I followed the NHS recommended procedure.
I called 111 and within 30 minutes I had been triaged and was speaking to a medical professional. She agreed that face to face was warranted and contacted the surgery. An appointment for a face to face was arranged for that afternoon.

Perhaps if this government had not been cutting public spending since 2010, we might have had a few more doctors by now, we certainly have more useless MPs.

Kindly publish a link to support your statement. They have been claiming increases in spending on the NHS for 3 years now so would be great for you to publish some facts to clarify.

Have you missed the court case that found the Government giving out contracts to "friends" for PPE used by the NHS . "Friends" who have never made a single piece of PPE before they got to the trough. PPE costing £millions that was totally unsuitable and took up it's rightful position at the tip.
Government wasted £2.1bn on PPE that was useless, says new report (msn.com)

Want a multimillion PPE payout from the government? Apparently, all you have to do is befriend a Tory MP | The Independent
It is easy if you use a search on Google just put Criminal Tories giving £Millions for useless PPE to friends and a quarter of a million results suddenly appear, surprised you didn't know that plus the Television News is a good source of er News.

The facts are published and in the public domain.
In the last 7 years, there has been a reduction of 10% in the number of qualified GPs per 1,000 patients.
In the EU only Poland has less doctors per 1,000 inhabitants.
This is a link to the report, hope this helps clarify the facts.

Nash referred to them cutting public spending. The number of doctors in situ is not the same thing; although certainly needs fixing.

This doesn't help get an appointment;
NHS England says almost 90% of GPs work part time in response to Pulse survey
https://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news/wo...-pulse-survey/
As to the off topic PPE Judgement;
The ruling says it is highly likely these offers would have been awarded if they were processed through other channels also used to process offers. All contracts underwent sufficient financial and technical due diligence and the court found that we did not rely on the referral to the high priority lane when awarding contracts.”

It might also be useful to understand the background of the tax-dodging supremo who is behind the good law project.

The same survey found that GPs were breaching safe working limits due to high workload and lack of GPs.
My daughter is a GP working part time. She is paid for a 30 hour week (classified as part time). Prior to CV she worked another 5 -10 hours unpaid most weeks ! Of course, she has been working a lot more unpaid hours for the last couple of years.

I also have Gp's in the family and part-time working is very much a lifestyle choice which leads to the ones left having a higher workload and some suffering from stress.
Working 5-10 hours extra a week is hardly relevant.
Most of us do that and much more without thinking.
If they all worked full time there would be enough and would share the load with the over worked ones.
We can't just magic up GP's to cover the part-time rush.
