Saturday, 09 June 2018 Crosby/Waterloo Beach.
Firefighters have been called to two separate incidents today involving people stuck in mud flats at Waterloo and Crosby beach.
Firefighters rescued 4 people working together with the Coastguard and the RNLI.
In the first incident crews were alerted at 4.00pm and on scene at 4.00pm.
2 fire engines, the Search and Rescue team and rescue boat Marine Fire One were in attendance.
2 teenage girls were located near Crosby Marina and led to safety by two firefighters.
They were then assessed by paramedics and found to be uninjured.
Crews were on scene until 4.45pm.
In the second incident crews were alerted at 5.47pm and on scene at 5.55pm.
2 fire engines and the Search and Rescue team were in attendance.
Working with Coastguard and RNLI colleagues, crews located 2 women stuck in mud near to Burbo Bank, Crosby beach.
Casualties were stuck up to their knees. Firefighters freed them from the mud around 6.10pm with the added support of RNLI boards and Coastguard sand ladders and were able to get them to firm ground.
Casualties were assessed by paramedics and were not injured.
Please be aware that mud flats at the beach are treacherous and it is very easy to become stuck fast quickly and at serious risk from rising tides.
As soon as sand underfoot becomes muddy and soft, return to firm ground immediately.

Agree with the above...
ALSO DO NOT TRUST any patches of grass.... they are often 'floating' and sink as soon as you step onto them!

Wonder if these unfortunates had wandered about on the "treacherous mud flats" in order to view the ludicrous Gormley statues.

Ludicrous statues, not as ludicrous as that comment!
Thousands of visitors have been to see them bringing ££££'s in local revenue, just what is ludicrous about something bringing in visitors & income.

How much and how is it calculated?
They cost nothing to go and see.

I'm basing my comment on an assumption, people will have visited the area due to the statues, whilst there some will have purchased from local businesses whether it be ice cream, teas/coffees, alcohol or meals. They may well have used public transport to get there as I have.
