USA's Oil Boom from Fracking............
Recently in the news it has been reported that the USA has been drawing huge amounts of oil from fracking. In fact Trump has said that soon the USA will be self sufficient in oil production.
So has the renewed interest in UK fracking come about due to the claims made by the USA? There is a problem with fracking in the USA. It is true that the process has yielded millions of barrels of oil - but what our media failed to state was that the cost of the fracking process in the USA exceeds the profits made from the oil. Fracking companies there are losing $millions big time.
Are the UK companies going to find the going any different? Even if there has been more oil found in Formby, just west of the original oil field there?

I'd take anything that Trump says with a huge pinch of salt.
As for fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, for me there's a clue in the name. Give the violence with which gas or oil is extracted it isn't exactly going to be harmless and good for the environment or people nearby. I know that the Preston New Road site has had to suspend fracking because of seismic activity. Tiny activity, but fracking causes it. Not good.
I'd also like to know why United Utilities bleat on about how domestic users have to save water and Cuadrilla can pump millions of gallons without a care.
Any way you look at it, fracking isn't good. Even if it was in unpopulated areas of the world, we don't know the long term effects. Which is why it's more or less banned in N. Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It's a backward step when we should be investing in renewables.

Ah, fracking. A wonderful natural resource that we should exploit to Make Britain Great Again. I love all these new fangled things like light, heat and electricity. I realize some of the tree huggers (like that toxic little Greta troll) would prefer us to be living in damp caves with the candle snuffed (while her support team flies by jet) but hey, let's live like it's 2019.

'Toxic little Greta troll'?
When was Britain 'great', and why isn't Britain 'great' now?
Hysterical.

The US will never be totally self sufficient because their complex refineries need heavy crude as well as light. They have an abundance of light crude, but have to import heavy crude. They've always imported heavy crude from Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and (I think) Iran. A combination of US sanctions, plus lower Canadian and Mexican production, has sent heavy crude prices sky high. And, of course, there are shortages at US refineries.
