Sefton Council has declared a ‘Climate Change Emergency’ to help protect future generations.
Councillors voted to approve the declaration at Southport Town Hall (Thursday, July 18) following a motion raised by Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regulation and Compliance.
A declaration of a ‘Climate Emergency’ was voted through which will see the council continue it’s hard work to reduce carbon emissions and aim to be a ‘net-zero’ local authority by 2030.
It is hoped that Sefton can adapt cleaner and greener alternatives for all of its energy usage over the next 11 years.
Cllr Lappin said: “Recent extreme weather events over several years have presented severe challenges to Sefton and the Met Office clearly states that these kind of extreme weather events are significantly more likely on a planet with human-caused climate change.
“The message is loud and clear: business as usual is no longer an option.
“This is now a time for action and we will work closely with our partners across the Liverpool City Region to make sure we do all we can to tackle climate change in our beautiful borough and the world.”

that is excellent news....first thing to do..stop hundreds of bus journeys, including park and ride, trundelling round our town for 18hrs a day that are empty or with one or two people on....the bus lanes also congest the town centre making cars que for longer...

It’s quite simple really. The idea behind bus lanes is to get people out of their cars and on to buses. If you don’t like sitting in congested car lanes get out of it and start using the bus, Doh! It only takes 7 passengers on board a bus to make it more efficient than equivalent car journeys. You say the above article is ‘excellent news’, then go on to say we should scrap the buses and use cars instead, wtf?

i would be clapping my happy hands if the buses were full, were not spewing out mega fumes, blocking the town centre, and people paid for the service....but none of these things are true in real life...because you cant do a proper family shop on a bus thats just reality...modern cars are way more efficient and cleaner than than these buses....and the car drivers pay their way...the bus companies are making a fortune for their shareholders at the public expense, transporting a free pensioner into town to buy nothing and walk around is not the way forward

First thing to do is to go back to school and learn how to write a simple coherent sentence out in English. Secondly, try and grasp the basics of grammar and punctuation. What a mess!

Not to mention the expansion of Liverpool Docks with an increase of shipping which uses heavy diesel oils that leak into the water. Nor the expansion of John Lennon airport with aircraft fuels exuding far more pollution into the atmosphere.Let's pretend that new housing estates with air conditioning and central heating do not increase atmospheric pollution, builders chemicals seeping into the land for land pollution and that the new building projects destroy natural habitats of creatures that enhance our lives, the removal of trees and shrubs that absorb polluting carbon dioxides from the atmosphere, etc., Yes, stop the pollution where it affects the general public but forget the pollution that fills coffers with money!

I’ve seen some illiterate, incoherent rubbish on this site over the years, but this post certainly takes the biscuit. You really ought to find a seven year old who could teach you the very basics of English language and grammar.
