Roadmap out of lockdown
What do we think?
I'm cautiously optimistic. Had one vaccine, due another in April, so feeling better about reducing the rate of infection with jabs.
I do have a couple of concerns. First is almost all kids going back to school on the same day. I'd like to have seen all school staff get at least one vaccine before going back. And maybe a staggered return. From what I've seen, there are few precautions in place other than regular social distancing measures. I know that children aren't at a massive risk of infection, but they can pass it on.
Having said that, we really do need to get the kids back in education.
The second concern is the idea of 'vaccine passports'. Internationally, certainly. But are people to be refused jobs if they refuse the vaccine? I'm not in favour of mandatory vaccines, but I do understand an employer, say a care home, choosing a fully vaccinated person over someone who refuses to have a jab.
Apart from these, and my lockdown hair not being tamed until April, it's light at the end of the tunnel.

Like you I am optimistic and hope all the stages work to progress to the next, I'm glad that we have some easing for Easter so it isn't a free for all.
Personally all schools going back on the same day could be a mistake, we will have to wait & see a staggered return would have been a more sensible option IMO but lets hope the advisors know what they are doing.
We already have vaccine passports to a degree, I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks in Kenya a few years go and we weren't allowed to apply for a visa without a yellow fever vaccination certificate, if that is the way we have to go for safe foreign trips then so be it.
I agree, mandatory vaccines isn't something that should happen but in life we have to accept there sometimes allowances we have to make. I wouldn't want a relative being cared for by someone who hasn't had the vaccination, if you choose a career in caring the surely a primary function is to care and you should care enough to protect your patient as much as possible.

It appears that only one lesson has been learnt, the spacing out of easing restrictions, you cannot release a restriction one day then ease another 3 days later and another 3 days after and and monitor effects.
Schools going back is a disaster waiting to happen, the kids need to go back but there is no realistic control or measures, there will be infections and outbreaks occurring and no vaccines for staff. One year on and there is no permanent system for remote learning, vulnerable pupils are going to miss out. ALL classes should be broadcast online as routine, this would assist in teaching kids who are absent for any reason it should be expected that any absence from school should not be a total absence from learning, it could also be a useful tool for training and monitoring teachers performance.
Non Contact Sport should have never been locked down, tests have shown that outdoors the transmission of the virus is negligible and even with shared equipment it is low. They are always going on about peoples Mental Health yet they have prevented these low and negligible risk activities, how on earth they consider a round of golf or a game of bowls riskier that a walk in a crowded park is beyond comprehension. There has been too much of 'you can't do this and you mustn't do that' and no ' you can do this and that', they have treated the people like young children and it is no wonder many are starting to behave like children.

Its a delicate balance with so many siren calls one way or the other.
Thankfully our governments decisions on vaccines have allowed us to consider relaxing restrictions.
Our biggest problem is we are still in the "season" for respitory disease.
Last year the summer weather helped to bring our infection rates down.
Despite eat out campaigns it remained relatively low until the "season" started.vaccines
This roadmap is all about the weather and vaccines.

I'm fed up of people blaming everyone but themselves for lack of adherence to lockdown rules. If you are an adult then behave like a resonsible one no matter how ridiculous you feel the restrictions are. This pandemic has revealed an awful lot of armchair scientists who apparently know more than the professionals. Also an awful lot of people who prefer to believe anonymous 'experts' on the internet and who don't understand the concept of 'freedom'.
I'm sick to death of this pandemic. I've found the experience to be profoundly disheartening and I'll be mad as hell if I have to endure anymore than necessary because some idiots can't bear to wear a mask or feel it is their right to go down the boozer or won't be vaccinated. This has been life and death for many and dissenters need to get their values straightened out.
Before the next pandemic,(and we know there will be one) I hope we've addressed the many issues of public response, education and government administration both in this country and globally.

This is true. All I've read today on social media is either 'going on holiday' or 'going in a pub'. Both of which will be lovely, but if that's anyone's priority, they really need to have a word with themselves.
Similarly the 'can I now go to...' posts. Simply 'no'. Nothing has been lifted, nothing has changed yet. The place was crawling with visitors around the Prom / lake last weekend, despite the inclement weather. We were furious. Having to wait while some family from goodness knows where passes by when we are staying within the law is infuriating.
In the main, I think the public have followed guidelines pretty well. But there are those braindead idiots that will keep the rate of infection high. And screw it up for the rest of us. So as I said, while I do see some light at the end of the tunnel, I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

For me the main problem will be from the COVID deniers, anti vaxxers plus the assorted brain dead, this collection will help to maintain a reservoir of disease ready to spread at any time.
The idea of vaccination certificates is one answer, I know some go on about “freedom” but highlighting those who refuse vaccinations is a good thing, freedom does not mean wandering round carrying and possibly spreading infection.

It is not just those who don't want a jab, what about those who can't have one, still I suppose they can buy one off ebay.

The weather was actually ok on Sunday. Good enough to enjoy a traffic-free bikeride along the 'closed' Marine Drive through the roadworks. Fyi, the contractors appear to have been replacing a section of sagged kerb and doing a little patching.
But yes, there were a lot of visitors at the seafront and many cars on the big retail carpark. No way could the majority have been local - duh!

Does every single thread have to revert to you and your poxy bike rides?
Has is ever occurred to you that very very few people on here want a running commentary of every inch you travel?

Considering the ongoing disruption caused by the Marine Drive closure. I figured more than a few might be curious about what was taking place in the 'closed' section...and you can't do that in a car!

Seeing that the road is closed for road works, think it’s fairly safe to assume that remedial work is taking place on our roller coaster by pass.
None of which has the slightest relevance to the lock down restrictions being eased.

I'd hoped they would be re-laying it, to create a smooth surface. But all we're getting is a few patches and some kerbing!
