    For best practice, look no further than NL, where they think nothing of completely remodelling a street, moving kerbs and all.....Here in the UK, more often than not its a quick fix with a can of white paint!

    Why give irrelevant comparisons with the Netherlands?

    Remodelling OUR streets is an entirely different proposition and as we see on a regular basis they aren't used when they have been.

    Houghton Street and much of the town where there is cycling lanes which I had occasion to visit quite a few times recently was bereft of other cyclists.

    Money would be far better spent elsewhere, building facilities to lie empty is simply a waste.

    Free GYM membership and weight classes might be more useful for our groaning and obese nation.

    With your attitude to other road users, you should seriously consider some further driver training as you need to get up to speed on the Highway Code.

    (You might also want to have a look at the offence of careless and inconsiderate driving, something which you’re admitting to in your post!)

    Considering all the outrage and furore over the past year about one of the main roads in the town centre I'd have thought that locals ought to be able to spell it correctly by now.

    It's very relevant......Both here and in NL, what we have in common beneath our flags and kerbs is sand - an easy to dig material.

    The way it's done, is by moving the kerb towards the roadway a couple of feet, take a couple of feet off the pavement too. Then use the space you've won, to provide a nice safe cycle-path minimum four feet wide (six feet width where possible) separated from road and pavement by its own kerbing. Other side of road do the same, giving riders of all ages and abilities their own unique 'highways'.

    If you haven't tried riding a bike in NL, I'd suggest giving it a go, or at least view a few videos of cycling in NL. I can't imagine why someone who cycles themselves, would write off a straightforward engineering solution that's so well proven.

    I wouldn’t pass one that’s moving, but I would pass one that’s stationary in a line of traffic, which I’d be entitled to do as per the Highway Code.

    The Nob would be the one who seems to think that deliberately blocking other road users is perfectly acceptable.
