Time to revisit Fracking?
We would have much better security of supply from an age old method.
Perfect nope, but gas will be for millionaires and Russia's mates the way it's going and no renewable is anywhere near going to plug the gap.

Disagree about renewables......Take my own situation, with wall thermometer currently reading 24c at 7pm today. Top of stove available for cooking (however went on bike to pick up takeaway tonight). Gallons of lovely warm water on tap. All achieved here without any need of piped gas. I'd say my energy 'gap' is very nicely plugged - how about yours?

Perhaps we wouldn't be in this predicament if all the gas storage facilities hadn't been demolished

Aah, if wishes were horses......Imo this crisis is a sign that we've reached 'peak gas'.

Apart from being an environmental disaster, In March 2019, the High Court found the UK government's policy was unlawful and failed to consider the climate impact of shale gas extraction. In November 2019 the government announced "an indefinite suspension" to fracking, after a report by the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) said it was not possible to predict the probability or size of tremors caused by the practice.
The planet’s messed up enough as it is without going back down this route again. And anyway, Johnson’s promised us the lights won’t be going out this winter and we can meet our demand.
What could possibly go wrong?

Problem is the Law is as Parliament makes it.
All energy production has an effect on the environment.
But the lights out is a big looming problem and no renewable cuts it.
What realistic options are there?

Maybe smaller ones dotted about but not in every substation surely.

They can’t even erect 5G masts round here without the tinfoil hat brigade coming out frothing at the mouth. Good luck with placing a miniaturised nuclear power plant on every street corner.

Filling the air with PM2.5 pollution, burning chopped up trees and served with excessive amounts of Co2 not for me, I have a conscience oh and neighbours I respect.

B) I think you'll find that gas appliances emit plenty CO2, which until you fire-up, has been locked safely away underground for millions of years. Once liberated, it becomes a permanent addition to the atmosphere and accelerates global warming.
Whereas the CO2 in logs, was absorbed directly from the atmosphere by a tree. So that same CO2 when released back into the atmosphere, causes no net increase in atmospheric CO2.
I hadn’t realised that trees are so intelligent that they can distinguish which CO2 to absorb, and which to allow to float away into the atmosphere. Who’d have known eh?

More lies, why isn't this eco-dunce banned?
This isn't a difference of opinion it's lies after lie to defend his selling of pollution and death.
You simply don't understand or more likely don't want to understand what your posting.
I suppose you will have your new friend Said along soon to defend your lies.

Fact is, trees absorb CO2, whereas gas fracking sites do not!

True, but you want to burn the trees, sure replant the trees, but don’t try to tell us that tiny sapling trees will absorb anything close to the CO2 absorbed by larger more mature trees, messes up your constant propaganda.
