Am I right in thinking the Belle Vue was where the Dentist surgery is just round the corner from the Shelbourne?

Like you Mrs. Wright the memory of the Belle Vue's location is misty. It was on the left after the merger of Westcliffe Road and Lulworth Road.
It had purple coloured gates if memory serves me right. Walked past it countless times to visit my Gran.

heres a pic of hotel Bellvue it says it was demolished in 1962 I do remember seeing it around that time, it was a really handsome piece of marine architecture, reminds me of those old american seaside villas recreated by Disney. I think it stood where the Georgian style town houses are now.

Like Jason I remember the purple gates, and the paintwork on the cuppola thingie was also purple. It was closed down and left to rot for for a long time before it was demolished. All the grounds were quite overgrown and the whole place had a creepy look to it. Crying shame it's no longer there, a beautiful building. Very typical of many houses on the Eastern seaboard of the U.S.
Avro, keep searching in your attic if this is an example what you're finding up there!

The flats and maisonettes of Beach Priory Gardens (estate) are where the Belle Vue once stood.
I will probably get assassinated for calling it an 'estate' but it was the only word I could think of at the time.

My dad was the head chef at the Belle Vue back in the 50s. I was shown around the place but I can't remember much. It's a great shame that they pulled it down. Built the 1700s.

Dances
Went to many dances at the Belle Vue.
It closed soon after the the then owner committed suicide about 1956. He did it with a 12g shotgun.
His daughter went to St Wybern.
