2012 a 'freak' year weatherwise - or is it what's around the corner in the future?
Channel 4 at 8pm (Channel 4+1 at 9pm)
Take a guess? Your guess could not be any worse than all the experts 'views' that have been published.
Leaders all across the world spent billions on software and equipment in order to be able to produce long range weather forecasts. They still cannot predict the chaos of weather but they have to justify the huge investment that was made - so they more or less just guess.
Weather forecasting as such is only about 150 years old. Studies made of the weather before this time have shown that it is very changeable. The UK has experienced tropical climates for a few years and ice ages - and probably everything in between.
* A 40% rise in carbon dioxide since 1850, from 250 parts per million to 400 parts per million.....A dramatic rise, which coincides with large scale industrialisation and massively increased man-made emissions.
* Carbon dioxide levels have never been above 300 parts per million in the last 500,000 years. ......i.e. since humans appeared.
* Rise in average temperature of 1 degree in the last 100 years.
* Unprecedented number of weather records broken in the last 10 years.
Of course, all this could be simple coincidence and natural effects.....
As has been pointed out so often, the earth has been cooling down and heating up for many, many thousands of years, long before the onset of C02, 4x4s, Industrial Revolutions, jet aircraft etc.
A mere "five minutes" of weather statistics doesn't prove anything, no matter how hard you try.

Yet it's never had to cope with carbon dioxide levels of 400 parts per million in the last 500,000 years - until now. Hardly surprising that the weather's acting up as a result.
I'd be a lot happier with levels back below 300 parts per million.
I'd say we're 'doomed' if pollution is allowed to continue increasing to yet higher and even more dangerous levels. Pegging it back now to a relatively safer level would avoid catastrophic meltdown/big sea-level rises/weather mayhem etc....Hopefully it's not too late to change our ways.

What a load of............
How did they measure so many parts per million nearly 200 years ago?
How accurate were thermometers 200 years ago, how many were around?
A) How did they measure so many parts per million nearly 200 years ago?
B) How accurate were thermometers 200 years ago, how many were around?
C) How extensive was record keeping?
D) Could this be linked to the increase of cycles?
A) They drill down as far as 1km deep into polar ice deposits. The ice cores extracted contain trapped air bubbles of the atmosphere as it was back then....Easy to use these to measure the gas composition of atmosphere at any date in the past.
B) Don't know about 200 years. Thermometers will have been accurate enough around 100 years ago, showing a 1 degree rise from then to now.
C) Plenty of records over the last 100 years.
D) Cycles?? Definite increase in cars over last century!
Should have known better, but watched the start, very quickly realised it was one of those freaky "jet aircraft spraying the world" with millions of tons of chemicals and metals.
Please use your loaf, how the hell do these aircraft manage to leave the ground with the weights that some crackpots seem to believe they carry.
Do a bit of research, check out max gross take off weights of the aircraft supposedly spraying, then tell me how much of that could even possibly be devoted to a spot of atmospheric spraying.
If you believe that rubbish, remember it's end of world time 21st of this month, so it won't matter anyway.
Polar region now warmer due to global warming/high CO2 levels, so less temperature difference between polar air mass and tropical air mass. The boundary between the two air masses is therefore less distinct, leading to jet-stream 'wandering' more in large slow-to-change loops.
As result of the above, the U.K. ends up being stuck in either a cool/dry polar air mass, or warm/wet tropical air mass for extended periods......This would certainly explain last years prolonged wet summer.
