Metro Mayor tax
I have just read that Sefton has agreed that all council tax payers will have to pay an additional precept for Steve Rotherham and his office. Why?

Absolutely stinks, we were told that Council Tax payers would never have to pay for the Metro Mayors. We now have a situation where we have Metro Mayors and Police Commissioners, who are basically no more than ‘snout in the trough’ wastes of space, doing very little to justify their existences, being bankrolled by honest hard working people, who are being squeezed more every year. It’s high time we all donned our yellow hi-viz vests, and follow the example of the French.

I hope everyone is taking notes - the PCC is a Labour supporter as is the Metro Mayor. Every single council in the UK has received the same grant from central government - how is it that Sefton is unable to manage their housekeeping, while other councils are managing pretty well. Take for instance Preston - once the most economic deprived area -
"But difficulty need not be impossibility—as can be seen in the path taken by the flagship Labour council of Preston in Lancashire. In a few short years Preston has gone from being one of the most deprived parts of the country to a model of radical innovation in local government through its embrace of community wealth building as a modern reinvention of the longstanding political tradition of municipal socialism. Community wealth building is a local economic development strategy focused on building collaborative, inclusive, sustainable, and democratically controlled local economies. Instead of traditional economic development through public-private partnerships and private finance initiatives, which waste billions to subsidize the extraction of profits by footloose corporations with no loyalty to local communities"
Lessons should be taken and learned!

I don't like ever more layers of bureaucracy than you do, but remember who set up these positions under the guise of devolving authority to the regions, what our present government has actually done is gifted the responsibility, the bills and the blame to local authority and organisations, but cut the funding to actually accomplish this.
I agree that we are all being conned, but the architects are in central government, placing local authority in an impossible situation yet hoping to avoid responsibility.

Read my previous post as regards the setting up of these extra layers of bureaucracy, but your statement that all councils receive the same grant from central government is way off beam.
Many councils have had to take much more severe cuts than others, for instance Liverpool is very high on the scale of deprived areas, Liverpool deprived rating 43.45, cuts to funding 27.1%, the district council of Hart, deprived rating 4.47, cuts to funding 1.5%.
There are 14 councils which have actually received increases in funding, surprise, surprise 13 of them have Tory MPs, must be quite a coincidence.
