A bit like grassroots, I've only had three jobs during my working life and I'm now retired. I spent 5 years as an engineering apprentice, then jacked it in and joined the army. Stayed in for the full 22 years then became a building manager and worked my way up till I managed 14 commercial/retail sites. Result: 3 pensions including the state one; my own house, and a pretty comfortable lifestyle. There's a lot to be said for job stability - if you enjoy the work.......

Self employment for me every time, I prefer to be master of my own destiny....Having said that, it paid to work for someone else in the beginning. There's a lot to be learned by seeing/experiencing how a business is run from within, before starting your own.

There has been quite a variety of replies - I assumed there may be two reasons. One that people are afraid to change in case the situation they find themselves in may be less satisfactory or that they have been given a job and would be unable to find other work in that line.
Personally, once I have succeeded in doing a job well, I get bored and need to move on. It usually hits me one day at work, and I just suddenly hand my notice in. I am not bothered about finding another job immediately, I have always saved money so I know that I will be OK. I have stayed in one main profession for most of my life, though I have had several other jobs to fill in with. This was good since it widened my scope in life - but I could not possibly stay in one place with the same people for years on end. The most boring employment was in direct Government positions, while the most exciting was in front line technology associated with the Government, but under private management. The most rewarding work was working with students - but to do so, I had to put up with some of the most insufferable, boring, arrogant colleagues, but it all adds to experience.
I started working at nine years old. I was employed in outside employment when I was twelve - I worked for the Co-op, and I have been working regularly ever since. I have much fun and met many, many really great people from all walks of life - several I have kept in touch with. It is with great sadness that I realise that young people of today will not have the opportunities and experiences that I have had. If I had been in the position that they find themselves in today - I would probably have started my own business working from home to start with, and build up from there - if one business did not work, then I would keep on until I found one that did - and I wish all the best to them.

No, of course not. This does not include self employed people because their interest is in their own output and achievement. The country needs far more people like that, it needs the diversity of markets and the willingness of people to do it. No - I am talking about employed people, people who work for faceless bosses - who have continually done the same thing day after day for many years without having a personal interest and never wanting to change. i.e. Supermarket personnel, some have stayed in the same job for thirty five years or more.
I do not look down on anyone - everyone makes their own choice. I cannot do mundane while many people are happy with that sort of work. I am merely trying to explain my own application to work and why I cannot stay in one place for long.

I'd forgotten about the 'shadow people'.

What kind of a bubble do you live in? What I have said is completely true and what is more, I have not included all my experiences. While some people are happy to live under rules and regulations of a regular lifestyle, there are others who do not conform to those limitations. I most certainly never have. To my mind, my life has given me a very broad outlook on life and with which to be competent in giving accurate informed opinions. Whether you believe me or not is entirely up to you - I really am not bothered.

Once a wrongful accusation has been made publicly it is necessary to put the record right because any subsequent threads or opinions I give would allow other posters to doubt the provenance of the facts given.
Any personal abuse levelled against me is like water of a duck's back, but when it is made public, especially if it is wrong - that is a different matter.

Thank you for that! For members who have read your opinions and so called facts, you have just inadvertently confirmed your incompetency.

That ship has long sailed. 99.9% of the "facts" you come up with are refuted by other members.

It would take me a while, but be assured that I could provide evidence of your lies/contradictions/incredible fantasies on this forum.

I'd suggest that the reason for said's regular changes in employment would be connected to the large amount of disciplinary cases against him that he used to brag about.

Hesus! That was a topic raised in 2018 and open for discussion. I used the same statements that were made at the time for the thread. Those same facts were raised on that topic by various publications on the internet. If you have any meaningful views on the thread when you grow up you can submit them for discussion?
