The continuing controversy about Brexit and its ramifications locally will be on the agenda tomorrow afternoon at a special meeting at The Civic.

And topping the bill so to speak will be Andrew Adonis who's passionately against the current stalemate and among politicians calling for a 'people's vote'.

He'll be arguing his case tomorrow at the free meeting - whether he gets a fair hearing is anyone's guess...

Told about the meeting earlier today, one QLocal reader in Aughton said he'd 'rather watch paint dry'.

We we have had a vote and we are leaving, end of. So don’t waste your time coming.

A peoples vote is a great idea, we had one in 2016.


People followed the thousands of hours of debate and it was a celebration of democracy.

People listened to both sides intently, did their own research and made their decisions on balance after taking out arguments they felt weren't determinative.


It went so well, everyone buried their differences afterwards accepted the result and worked hard to implement the vote outcome.

Now that there is a deal on the table let people vote for what it is rather than what was promised. Cannot reply on MPs voting on our behalf, especially as so many of them are so confused.

There were endless debates and articles to read, if you still feel you voted in ignorance it is probably the realisation that as in any vote no one can accurately predict the future.



Another vote would have the same problems, those who were on the losing side would look for points of contention.

Its democracy and it creates "winners" and losers the only problem with the referendum vote is the losers in this case are not accepting the outcome.


If we allowed a "second vote" the principle could quite reasonably be extended to all votes in the future including general elections.

The SNP would love a independence vote every year till they got their way.

We were all told categorically that a vote for leave was a once in a lifetime vote and that we would leave the customs union and the single market how did that confuse you ?

Or do you believe only one side understood what they were voting for which just happens to be your side.

I know its disappointing not to get what you want and be on the losing side but that is democracy and for most of us we suck it up and give our best wishes to the winners its what makes us.

The alternative would be allowing those who whinge the most to be rewarded.

We have the worst examples of anti-democracy activists filling our media on a daily basis they our souring our reputation in the world.

I doubt very much if any of the expenditure for the campaigns would have made much difference. The people had made up their minds long before the referendum. Very few people realise that leaving the EU had been under discussion for almost twenty years before the referendum.

How many Leavers have got or look likely to get, what they hoped for, what they expected and particularly what they were promised? the number will be very small indeed.

Please will someone just remember the referendum was an advisory, not a binding election or manifesto and frankly whatever your views, can't think for one moment that many voted for the division, hostility and almighty c@@k up which is currently the norm.

ALL referenda are advisory! What's the point in holding them if the government don't implement the answer?

If it was always advisory, then why was it held at all? Why spend millions sending each household a booklet? Why did the Remain and Leave groups spend millions also? If you knew it was advisory, why did you go and vote?

On page 14 of the booklet sent to every household, it says "This is your decision. The Government will implement what you decide."

BTW, Chukka Ummuna is calling for a second referendum, but it appears he won't give his constituents a chance to vote now that he's left the Labour party. Hmmm selective democracy.

We decided to Leave - can the Government get on with it.

Also... bring on a second referendum, with the same questions, not weighted in favour of a Remain result. Government to say it's not advisory, it will be implemented. We'd get an even bigger majority for Leave second time around. Will you then accept the result?

if they accepted the outcome and worked for its implementation there wouldn't be much left to talk about.

The only people who have "got what they voted for" are the remain side were still a member until the 29th of March (Maybe)

The only people who have got the mess they wanted so far are the EU zealots and anti-democracy campaigners.

Of course they are frustrated the anti-democracy EU zealots stood on a Brexit implementation manifesto whether Tory or Labour.

Hostility is entirely understandable to people who seek to subvert the will of the people after taking their parties shilling.

The United Kingdoms democratic system is under attack and if the duplicitous MP's are even partially successful it will be irretrievably broken.

The have created the mess no one else, they have created the problems.

A delay plays right into the hands of the far right who will prosper with the disaffected believing they have no other voice.

The country is being torn apart by the self interests of a group of MP's who openly treat the electorate with disdain.
